Calling all Castine history buffs and/or outgoing neighbors!

We are looking for more Castine Touring Company guides. It's a great way to show off your favorite town. You'll share history, local lore (or gossip...) and begin to see our town through new eyes. Hanging out on the dock on a day like today isn't too bad either.

Tours run 10 am to 4 pm and 11 to 4 on Sundays. If you take just one half of a day's shift during the week it is really an easy and fun way to support Castine. Proceeds from the tours go back into the Castine community organizations.

Castine Touring Company was created by a few dedicated citizens who felt visitors to our little town weren’t getting the full experience of what our town could offer if they stepped off a boat at the dock and only walked a short distance around the bottom of the hill. The volunteer-led touring company became a reality thanks to the driving force of “don’t take no for an answer” Bev Bishop (pictured center).

With funds from CTC, she worked with Bill Corbett (pictured next to her) last winter to build two swings installed at Backshore Beach and Fort Madison - again with the intention of showing off our beloved town to visitors and residents.

We lost Bev after a short but tough battle with cancer last week.

Tonight a young couple was snuggled on the swing at Backshore Beach enjoying the view. If she saw them, Bev would have pulled her car over to tell them she built that bench and within minutes she would have learned their life story, given them advice, introduced them to a neighbor to find them a job, and probably invited them to dinner.

Castine will never be the same without Bev. She asked that donations be made in her memory to Castine Touring Company. We hope you take a ride with us this summer in honor of Bev. 💕 🛺
