We invite you to gather at Cayucos Pier Memorial Day Monday at 3 PM for the “Lost at Sea” ceremony - the only one of its kind in California.
🇺🇸 The annual ceremony honors all military, fishermen and civilians lost at sea. Learn about the tolling of the bells and meaning of the Missing Man flying formation, demonstrated with an Estrella Warbird Museum vintage war plane flyover.
🇺🇸 You’re also invited to participate in the blessing of the wreath following a group march to the end of the pier, with each person touching the wreath of flowers before it is tossed in the sea as a memorial tribute to those who never returned home.
🇺🇸 We are grateful to the sponsoring Rotary Club of Cayucos and many volunteers, military and law enforcement agencies involved in bringing us this somber and moving traditional seaside tribute.
🇺🇸Thank you to the hardworking caretakers of the Cayucos-Morro Bay Cemetery District for setting out flags every Memorial Day in honor of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Ever wonder while exploring tidepools on Cayucos shores what those squishy, green-flowing or brown tube blobs are on the rocks?

Those are sea anemones (pronounced uh-NEM-uh-Nee) - invertebrates related to corals and jellyfish. Despite their flower-like appearance and plant-like names, they are animals.

🌊 Sea anemones anchor themselves to surfaces with a sticky foot and use venomous tentacles to catch prey. They are carnivores that feed on small fish, mollusks and zooplankton.
🌊 Body changes: Anemones can transform from brown, soft cylinders when tucking in their tentacles under threat (or exposed in minus tides) to fluorescent green and purple flowing tentacles under water. A ring of tentacles surrounds the mouth, acting as both weapons to stun prey and tools to sweep food inside.
🌊 Stinging Cells: Tentacles are armed with specialized stinging cells that inject paralyzing venom into prey.
🌊Anemones can sting humans! Please don’t touch them! Coming in contact with the local species may only cause a rash or allergic reaction, but oils and lotions on hands can harm or even kill these fragile sea creatures. (The same goes for sea stars!)

The Cayucos Farmers Market is set to soon kick off its summer season with fresh produce and local goods!

Look for the market starting Friday, June 5, from 10 AM-12:30 PM. Located at the corner of Ocean Avenue and “D” Street, the market will run every Friday until Sept. 4.
Some of the products you can expect to find:

🍓🥕 Fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms
🧀🥧 Artisanal cheeses and baked goods
🫒🫒 Peppery green olive oil and stuffed olives
🍿🍿 Fresh-popped kettle corn from Old West Kettle Corn
