They might not be spooky, but these historic sites and ghost towns are great destinations to keep in mind this week! 👻 Here are some of our favorite day-trip historic sites that are perfect for a quick historic getaway in southern Utah.

GHOST TOWNS:
▪️ Old Iron Town Ruins - 20 minutes from Cedar City
▪️ Silver Reef Ghost Town - 40 minutes from Cedar City
▪️ Grafton Ghost Town - 1 hr 7 minutes (on your way to Zion)

HISTORIC SITES:
▪️ Brian Head Peak Overlook Station - 50 minutes
▪️ Frontier Homestead State Park - 5 minutes
▪️ Taylor Creek Trail, Kolob Canyons - 20 minutes

It's the best weekend of the year 🐑🍂 The Cedar Livestock & Heritage Festival is THIS weekend. Are you ready?

Here are a few things we would want to know before the event:

🐑 The Sheep Parade starts Saturday at 10 am and includes sheep, longhorn cattle, sheep wagons, tractors, and more!

🚧 A portion of Main Street will be closed for the parade. The route goes from 200 South to 400 North, so plan ahead for road closures.

🚜 After the parade, you can find vendors, tractor pulls, amazing food, and more at the Cross Hollows Arena and Event Center.

🐶 For everyone's safety, please leave your dogs at home and keep to the edge of the street as the sheep pass by.

Today is a great day to chase fall leaves at the lower elevations 😍We've got a quick fall color update for you as we wind down our fall color season 🍂

🍂 The leaves are starting to turn in Kolob Canyons! Take a scenic drive and hike* the Timber Creek Overlook Trail.

🍂 Take a walk through the Beverley Center for the Arts to find bright color among the sculpture gardens.

🍂 Walk the Coal Creek Trail through town and into the canyon, to find yellow leaves along coal creek and canyon views as you go.

*10/21 - 10/22 our area is expecting a lot of rain. We would recommend checking weather conditions before making plans and avoiding river/slot canyon trails.

Rain (or snow) in the forecast? ❄💧
Don't cancel your plans; save this post and visit these places instead!

☔️ Visit a museum like the Southern Utah Museum of Art for incredible art exhibits, or the Frontier Homestead State Park for hands-on history and cool exhibits.

☔️ You can still hike (and find new colors in the canyon walls), just avoid slot canyons! Trails like the paved Coal Creek Trail can be great for a walk in the rain.

☔️ Take a scenic drive! We love a scenic drive to the Parowan Gap or through Kolob Canyons in the rain!

☔️ Explore Historic Downtown with a coffee in hand, a treat from a local restaurant, and a walk through local shops. And don't miss the sculpture gardens at the Beverley Center for the Arts!

❄️ The Cedar Breaks Visitor Center will remain open through Saturday! ❄️

If you're planning a visit, please use caution. Roads, parking areas, trails, and overlooks may be icy, and recent high winds have brought down trees throughout the monument. Additional trees may fall without warning. Drive carefully, wear proper winter footwear, dress for changing conditions, and stay alert while recreating.

Winter weather can change quickly at 10,000 feet. Check conditions before you travel and be prepared for snow, ice, strong winds, and cold temperatures.

We won't say no to some early snow on the mountain! 🏞️❄️

Check road conditions before your day's adventure and adjust plans as needed for early winter conditions. If you're still looking for red rock views, we've included a few suggestions below that are close to town 👇

🥏 Play 18 holes of disc golf at Thunderbird Gardens
🥾 Hike the Red Hollow or Thor's Hideout Trail for great views
🚗 Take a scenic drive in Kolob Canyons (check road conditions ahead)
