A pelican in Florida started showing up at a fisherman’s boat every single afternoon like he had a job application.
Captain Mike in Cedar Key was out on his skiff when this big brown pelican landed right on the bow and refused to leave. At first Mike shooed him away, but the bird kept coming back day after day. Then he noticed something strange — the pelican would dive into the water right when Mike cast his net, and somehow help drive fish toward it.
Now it’s become a daily partnership. The pelican (named “Scooper”) waits at the dock every afternoon, hops on the boat when Mike arrives, and works with him for a couple of hours. He dives, herds fish, and even waits patiently while Mike sorts the catch. In return, Mike always gives him his share of the smaller fish. Other captains have started seeing them working together and can’t believe how coordinated they are.
Scooper now has his own perch on the boat and even guards Mike’s cooler when he steps away. The locals say it’s the most reliable fishing duo on the coast.
