🏍️🔥 We've got a full weekend on deck, Appanoose County. 🔥🏍️

It all starts Friday night with a BONUS Centerville Bike Night on the Square featuring Sushi Roll Band hundreds of motorcycles, local food, cold drinks, shopping, and plenty of reasons to hang out downtown from 6-10 pm.

Then on Saturday, come hungry for the 5th Annual BBQ & Brew as pitmasters from across the state roll into Centerville to compete for BBQ glory. Your $20 ticket gets you all-you-can-eat BBQ samples, plus live music, vendors, beverage garden, and a full day of fun on the Square. Congratulations to Kalvin, our 2025-2026 Ripple Effect Top Cumulative Volunteer Hour Earner for the 8th Grade Class! 🎉

Over the course of his middle school career, Kalvin submitted more than 142 hours of volunteer service through PACT's Ripple Effect program, an incredible accomplishment and a testament to his dedication to helping others.

As a thank you for his hard work, Kalvin received $250 in Appanoose Bucks. We are incredibly proud of the example he has set and the impact he has made through volunteerism.

Beginning this summer, Kalvin becomes eligible for Silver Cords, and we have no doubt he'll continue making a difference throughout high school and beyond. Congratulations, Kalvin, and thank you for leading by example!

As we continue rolling out updates to the new PACT website, we're going to start highlighting different pages to remind folks of everything Appanoose County has to offer. First up: Meetings, Weddings & Events.

The upcoming reopening of Honey Creek Resort has a lot of people excited (including us!), but it's also a great reminder that Appanoose County is home to a wide variety of venues ready to host weddings, conferences, retreats, family reunions, fundraisers, tournaments, and more. From historic theaters and charming barns to lakeside views and flexible meeting spaces, our local PACT members have something for nearly every gathering.

Appanoose Country Club - A great option for baby or bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, retirement parties, class reunions, golf outings, and laid-back celebrations with great views and plenty of room to gather.

Bessie's Barn - Rustic, relaxed, and full of charm. A favorite for weddings, receptions, reunions, graduation parties, and gatherings that deserve a memorable setting.

🎨✨ Children's Art Festival 2026 is almost here! ✨🎭

Here's a quick reminder for families:

🎭 Auditions: Monday, June 15 at 10 AM at the Howar Middle School Old Gym
👧🧒 Open to students entering 1st-12th grade
💲 100% FREE to participate
🎨 Free art activities, workshops, and special events throughout the week
🎟️ Performance on Saturday, June 20 at 4 PM

Whether your child loves being on stage, wants to try something new, or just enjoys getting creative, this is a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, make friends, and have fun.

We're excited share a new Upper Story Housing Conversion funding opportunity designed to help property owners transform vacant or unoccupable upper-story downtown spaces into new residential units. Through funding provided by the State of Iowa, this program aims to address housing shortages while also preserving and revitalizing historic downtown buildings.

Eligible projects may receive:
• Up to $400,000 per project
• Up to 4 units at $100,000 per unit

This is more than a construction project. It’s an opportunity to bring new life to our downtowns, create additional housing options, support local businesses, and preserve the character of our community for future generations.

If you’ve been considering an upper-story housing project, now is the time to explore it. PACT is happy to help property owners navigate the process and put together the strongest application possible.

Good luck to the Centerville Community Schools girls soccer team in their first round of post-season play tonight! Coach Lain and the team helped out with delivering mulch for the Centerville Garden Club downtown. We appreciate these student athletes being involved in their community!

At the PACT office, we continued our favorite new tradition of asking the groups a simple prompt: "If you could add one new thing to our downtown, what would it be?" It's a great way to get the kids thinking about their community and it's always interesting to hear what they think of! Top votes for this year included an arcade, indoor hitting facility, cat cafe (this was a popular choice from last year), more public art and a trampoline park.
