Traveler's Tip! So you made those airline reservations 6 months ago to get the best prices and best seats - right? Make sure you double check your reservations a few weeks ahead of time. Airlines often will swap you to another flight that is less desirable than the one you originally booked.

How do you fix this - call them and demand they switch you back! They will. To arm yourself - be sure to check flight availability and make sure your original flight is still there. Make waves, it pays.

Excursions. These can be the most exciting and unnerving part about booking your cruise. Cruise Line Excursion or Private Tour Company? There is no right answer for every situation. I like to book Private whenever I can due to cost and size. There are usually less people on the tour and it can feel more personal. There are some instances that I would ALWAYS book through the ship. For example if you were visiting Tulum Ruins Mexico from Cozumel - there is a ferry ride and the trip is 8 hours. You are usually in port 8 hours.

If it is a ship sponsored excursion, they will hold the ship for you if you are running late - and we have been in this situation.

TIPS -
Make sure your excursion planned return is 1-1.5 hrs before ship departure.

Make sure you are using a watch set to SHIP time.

Check out the tour operator through reputable sites like Trip Advisor, Cruise Critic, etc.

Word of mouth - ask someone that has done the tour.

Be willing to be a little adventurous. If this makes you uncomfortable - stick with the ship! Either way you're on VACATION! Make the most of even the crazy things that can happen. They make for the best stories later!

Carnival is going to be doing an exciting new journey starting in 2015 out of Galveston. Take a Back to Back to Back and visit 15 ports in 33 days! I think this might be our 20th Anniversary Cruise in 2018 if they are still offering it.
