I am dreaming of those perfectly perfect blue waters today and am wondering if you are dreaming about them too. I stayed here for 3 nights during the travel conference I attended this month. Although I was away from the resort the majority of the day, I did feel that the people who were staying here thoroughly enjoyed their vacation. It is known for more of a party vibe, if that is what you are looking for, but the beach itself will bring relaxation to anyone who needs that peace. The buffet was decent and the Italian restaurant had plenty of choices for every tastebud. This is an adult only all-inclusive resort that is in the Cancun Hotel Zone, so easy to get to shopping and activities within the city. Budget-mid range pricing. Reach out if you are ready to start planning.

🇯🇲 Please pray for Jamaica. A category 4-5 hurricane is going to hit the island starting Sunday and last several days with strong winds, excessive storm surge and mud slides. Jamaica is very mountainous and I can’t imagine getting 60-80” of rain. This could very devastating for the island. Just pray 🇯🇲

Barceló Maya Palace from October 2025 stay next door. This resort is near Playa del Carmen, Mexico or about an hour south of the Cancun airport. I had access to this Colonial style resort and all it offered. Here is my opinion.
Pro’s:
- Stay at the Palace and you have access to the other 4 family resorts here.
- Beach is amazing for walks, swimming and snorkeling. The summer may bring some seaweed but that can’t be helped or predicted.
- Adult only quiet pool in case you want to get away.
- Great variety of activities for all ages. Some are extra money but a good variety.
- Moderate price tag
- Resort designed so you have a gentle breeze wherever you are at.

Con’s:
- Large resort complex which can be exhausting for some people or exciting for others.
- No app, map or paper schedule to know where you are going, entertainment schedule, etc… You rely on the info from your tv, lobby or random boards in the resort.
- Gym, spa, salon shared with all of the Barceló resorts.

I stayed at the adult-only Barceló Maya Rivera for 2 nights last week. Here are my thoughts.
Pro’s:
-New and clean property
-Ginormous beds. They are actually 2 queens pushed together to make a huge bed.
-Lush landscape with swaying palm trees on the beach.
-The beach sits in a cove, so generally protected. Seaweed can still happen, but the cove and barriers at sea help.
-Snorkel right off the beach and see a variety of fish and sea turtles. Dolphins sometimes spotted in the morning.
-Open access to the other 5 Barceló family properties next door.
-Moderately priced.

Con’s:
-The property is overwhelmingly huge when you include the other resorts so expect lots of walking.
-Evening buffet not always open so if you want that, you need to walk or take the Barceló bus to another resort. A la Carte restaurants are available by reservation.
-My feet got very tired, very fast from all the walking.
-No app or paper guides to help you find where you want to go.
-A little over an hour drive to the Cancun airport, but some of the best resorts are.

Over the weekend, I stayed at the family Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach All-Inclusive Resort near Playa del Carmen, Mexico. “Paraiso” (para-e-so) means “Paradise” in Spanish. This is a sister resort with full exchange privileges to the Iberostar Waves Mar Caribe next door. There are 3 other Iberostar properties on site, but I did not have access to them as they are considered a resort upgrade (aka Iberostar Selection vs Waves resorts). It has a beautiful beach and probably the most swimming pools that I have seen at any resort. If you can’t find a chair that is your fault. It has a Spanish design and lots of wildlife and lush greens throughout. Iberostar is dedicated to protecting the environment so refillable glass water bottles are found in every room. This is a nice resort for an anyone on a budget. If you would like an upgrade to a little more luxury, I would suggest one of their “Selection” properties for more inclusions and updates. Overall it was a clean and comfortable place.
