๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ September 11, 2001
There is an entire generation now who knows September 11th only through history books, photographs, videos, and the stories we tell them.
They donโ€™t remember where they were when the first plane hit.
They donโ€™t remember watching the second plane and realizing this wasnโ€™t an accident.
They donโ€™t remember the confusion. The fear. The silence.
They donโ€™t remember watching those towers fall and knowing, in that moment, that our world had changed forever.
But those of us who were there remember.
We remember the faces of people searching desperately for loved ones. We remember the first responders running toward something everyone else was running from. We remember strangers helping strangers. We remember the flags that seemed to appear everywhere in the days that followed.
And we remember this image.
Three firefighters, surrounded by destruction and unimaginable loss, raising the American flag above the rubble.
Twenty-five years have passed.
For some, September 11th is history.
For the rest of us, it is a memory.
Today we remember the 2,977 lives taken. We remember their families. We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members, rescue workers, and countless others whose lives were forever changed by that day.
May we continue telling the story to the generations who weren't here to witness it.
Because September 11, 2001 must never become just another date in a history book.
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001โ€”a day that forever changed our nation.

We honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the service members who answered the call in the years that followed, and the countless families whose lives were forever changed.

Twenty-five years later, we remember not only the tragedy of that day, but also the courage, compassion, sacrifice, and unity shown in its aftermath.

May we continue to honor their memory by remembering what brought us together.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

๐ŸŒ… Last night on the Missouri River.

What a beautiful view of the Missouri River as the sun settled over Chamberlain-Oacoma. Sometimes our river really does put on quite a show!

A special thank you to Jean Blackwell for capturing this gorgeous sunset and sharing her photo with us. Weโ€™re grateful to be able to share moments like this that showcase just how beautiful our little corner of South Dakota is. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŽƒ Introducing Patโ€™s Pumpkin Patch ๐ŸŽƒ

For years, Pat Kerwin was one of the driving forces behind the pumpkin patch at the Chamberlain-Oacoma Harvest Festival. Pat was always willing to roll up his sleeves, lend a hand, and do whatever needed to be done to help make the Harvest Festival a success. 2026 Harvest Festival

This year, we are honored to give this special part of the festival a new name:

๐Ÿงก Patโ€™s Pumpkin Patch ๐Ÿงก

It is a small way for us to honor Patโ€™s memory and recognize the years of selfless volunteerism, hard work, and heart he gave to the Harvest Festival and our community.

The Chamber will provide at least 100 FREE pumpkins for families to choose from while supplies last. We are also incredibly grateful to Buche Foods Oacoma for stepping in to help us with the Pumpkin Patch this year and helping us continue a tradition that Pat played such an important role in for so many years. ๐ŸŽƒ

๐Ÿ“ธ Weโ€™re also excited to add something new this year! Rockwood Photos will be joining us for Harvest/Pumpkin Patch photos, giving families an opportunity to capture a special fall memory at Patโ€™s Pumpkin Patch. More information on that will be coming soon!

We hope families will stop by, pick out a pumpkin, take some fall photos, and help us carry forward a tradition that Pat put so much of himself into year after year.

In memory of Pat Kerwin โ€” our friend, a dedicated volunteer, and someone whose impact on the Chamber will continue to be felt for years to come. ๐Ÿงก
