Fun fact Friday! 🐬

❓Did you know Charleston is one of the few places in the world where you can see wild dolphins practicing strand feeding?

It’s a rare and amazing behavior where dolphins team up to chase fish toward the shore — then launch themselves onto the mud to catch them!

This skill is passed down from generation to generation, and if you’re lucky, you might witness it live on one of our eco-tours! 🐬

Wishing a happy (average) birthday to our residential Dol-friends 🐬💙🎉

According to and .marine.mammals research, the average birthdate of the local Tamanends Bottlenose Dolphins is May 20th. Get out on the water to learn more & celebrate these amazing creatures.

We are so excited to collaborate with .marine.mammals for a fundraising kayak event! We will be launching a special kayak tour at 5pm on May 15th for a dolphin count and marsh clean up. It’s baby dolphin season! 🐬 With lots of new calves cruising the creek, it’s our responsibility to enjoy them safely. Whether you’re in a boat or a kayak, give dolphins lots of space and slow down when you see them. Allow them to decide how close they want to get to you, and remember - they are in charge! Nesting coastal birds are back! Be on the lookout for roped off areas on the south end of Morris Island where Least Terns, American Oystercatchers, and Wilson’s Plovers will be laying their eggs and raising their young. Please help these threatened birds succeed by avoiding the area and keeping pets on leash. The shorebirds appreciate it!

Spring is in full swing out here on the marsh! Our guides are starting to see multiple signs of brooding and nesting behavior from a variety of birds on our tours. Check out the green brooding plumage on this Great Egret! Guests may start seeing more avian activity in the marsh grasses and on designated shorebird nesting sights. If you’re an avid bird-watcher, this is a great time to book a tour with us!🪺🐣

That starts with training and empowering our kayak guides with the rescue skills, guiding skills, and ecosystem knowledge for a safe and educational time on the water.
