I Am Proud of Charleston...
I had the pleasure of taking a walk through downtown Charleston this beautiful morning with my bride, Lou and our Coonhound Kate. We were all getting a good case of "Cabin Fever" and needed to get out in the fresh air. We really wanted to see how the city was coping with the coronavirus crisis. I think I have a pretty good perspective being a Certified Charleston Tour Guide who spends most days showing visitors our spectacular hometown. We were stunned and moved by what we saw. While we have very few visitors in town, the folks who live here have most definitely taken to heart the pleas from the experts. The city was almost deserted. Traffic was light. Most of the restaurants were closed. The ones that were open were offering curbside pick up. There was very little pedestrian traffic to be seen. Vehicular traffic was a shadow of what it would normally be on a Thursday morning. Charlestonians are taking this very seriously. They have embraced and followed the warnings and recommendations from our Federal, State, and Local leaders. This is most definitely a team effort. Our community has joined together to combat this challenge much as they have down through history as they faced other challenges. The British occupation during the American Revolution, the ravages of the American Civil War, The Great Fire of 1861, the 1886 Earthquake, and Hurricane Hugo in 1989 are all examples of times in her history when Charlestonians rose to the call to save their city. Here in the Spring of 2020, we have been called on again to rise up and defend this place we love. From what we saw today, we have most assuredly risen to this challenge We thank God that we are fortunate enough to live in this wonderful and courageous city. Attached is a photo of The Charleston City Market. "A picture is worth a thousand words." God Bless you all. Be careful out there.
