Sea turtle nesting season begins today on Folly Beach. 🐢

Each year, loggerhead sea turtles return to this stretch of coastline to lay their eggs, continuing a natural cycle that has existed along the Atlantic for generations.

From May through October, our shoreline becomes part of an important habitat for these remarkable animals and their hatchlings.

Protecting them starts with one simple tradition here on Folly.

Keeping the shoreline dark helps ensure hatchlings can find their way to the ocean, guided by the natural light of the moon over the Atlantic.

Mark your calendars and get ready for Folly Beach's HUGE 4th of July fireworks display! 🎆✨

Here's what to know:
🎆The show will begin at dusk and will fire from the West side of the island, a few blocks from the pier. Viewing is available from all along the beach and even throughout Center Street.
🚗 There is both free and paid parking available across the island.
🤩 Celebrate responsibly by removing any trash and anything else you brought with you.

It’s sea turtle nesting season on Folly Beach! 🐢 Here are some tips for making sure that mama turtles and their eggs have the best chance of survival:

✨No lights are allowed that illuminate the front beach between sundown and sunrise from May 1st to October 31st.
✨Do not disturb a nesting sea turtle and observe her only from a distance
✨Do not shine lights on a sea turtle or take flash photography
✨Fill in large holes dug on the beach at the end of the day, as both adult and baby turtles can get trapped
✨If you see any adult sea turtles or hatchings, call 843-588-2433 to report your sighting
