🍂 South Carolina’s last covered bridge is hiding in one of the Upstate’s best little fall escapes.

Tucked away near Landrum, Campbell’s Covered Bridge has been standing over Beaverdam Creek since 1909 — and it’s the only remaining covered bridge in South Carolina.

But this little red bridge once served a much bigger purpose. It connected rural communities in the area and made trips that once took nearly an entire day possible in about an hour. It was named for Alexander Lafayette Campbell, who operated a grist mill just downstream — and you can still explore remnants of the old mill site today.

Add peak fall color, a creekside trail and one of South Carolina’s most charming hidden-gem communities nearby, and you’ve got a pretty good reason for a fall road trip. 🍁🥾

Some of South Carolina’s best stories are hiding where you’d least expect them. 🌿

Tucked away in the small town of Awendaw, the Sewee Shell Ring preserves a story that began thousands of years ago.

Long before the Lowcountry we know today, Native people gathered along this coast, relying on its abundant waterways and natural resources and leaving behind remarkable evidence of community life. The massive ring of oyster shell that remains today offers a rare window into that history — one that stretches back thousands of years.

This Native American Peoples Day, take the opportunity to look a little closer at the history beneath our feet.

Because sometimes the best way to uncover South Carolina’s stories is to get out there and explore them. 🥾

This SC Trail Town Completely Transforms Every October… 👀🎃

But the tradition started with something much smaller.

A few years ago, Conway began hanging hundreds of plastic jack-o’-lanterns from the oak trees lining downtown. People loved them so much that the city realized it might be onto something. More decorations followed, more visitors came, and in 2022 Conway took it one step further — ceremonially becoming the “City of Halloween” for the entire month of October. 👻

Today, the tradition has grown into a month-long celebration with elaborate downtown displays, spooky events, ghost walks and plenty of surprises around every corner.

And underneath all those pumpkins is still the Conway we love — historic streets, local businesses, the Riverwalk and plenty of places to explore on foot. 🥾🎃

One of South Carolina’s most unexpected towns has made it onto Hollywood screens… and it’s waiting in your backyard! 🎬🌿

Moncks Corner may fly under the radar, but Cypress Gardens has played backdrop to movies and shows like The Notebook, The Patriot and Outer Banks.

Beyond the big screen, there’s even more to discover. Paddle through a blackwater swamp beneath towering cypress trees, wander garden trails and uncover centuries of Lowcountry history along the way. 🛶

Our hearts are heavy for Walhalla. ❤️

In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by the fires — the families, friends, neighbors, first responders, and the entire Walhalla community.

Walhalla is a community filled with so much history, beauty, and heart, and one we are incredibly grateful to know and celebrate. Today, we stand beside our friends there and send our deepest love, strength, and prayers in the difficult days ahead.
