As a bibliophile I am still amazed and mortified by some ofe the books I happen upon. I was doing some homework and ran across The Delectable Negro, a sort of historical biopic that explores the connections between homoeroticism as well as both literal and figurative acts of human cannibalism that occurred during colonial and modern slave culture.

Not a rare comic, but a somewhat popular issue of note;
This is the start of Jim Lee's final story on the title, thus the issue is split between two stories, with Jim Lee's penciled Longshot/Mojo-main story shortened to twenty pages. Also it is part of a set of toys with comics. I have pictured(from left to right) the newsstand, mojo toy reprint and direct edition of the comic.

Book of Negroes:
Not to be misinterpreted with the fictional drama made for television miniseries "The Book of Negroes". "Book of Negroes"; is a document created by Brigadier General Samuel Birch in 1783 that records names and descriptions of 3,000 "Black Loyalists", enslaved "Blacks"(in those days labeled "Africans", because of their complexion), who escaped captivity to the British lines, in turn for their alliance were evacuated to points in Nova Scotia as free people of color. This 150-page document is the only one known to have recorded "Blacks" in a large, detailed scope as evacuees/escapees of slavery. Some went on as far as African to establish Sierra Leone.

Not only is LOBO the first series to be driven by a black lead character, the comic deals directly with themes of slavery, the Civil War, other hot-button topics. It has been reported that most of copies of LOBO were rejected by store owners upon first sight. It was a bold move to put a black cowboy, holding a gun, on the cover of his own comic in the mid-sixties & attempt to distribute it all around to the country, even small towns. That provocative and rather interesting attempt from Dell Comics as it was nearing bankruptcy it stands as the most culturally interesting thing they ever did, even if it was only driven by a desperate attempt to find a title that would succeed.LOBO only lasted only two issues. Both are pictured here.

Some folks say, they trippin with all the variant covers in comics. I think it's pretty cool. "Just buy what you like." Actually it's not that new you just gotta know where to look... Here are some variants of Hero For Hire #1. The original (upgraded, a South African release of #1-3, a reprint from 2006 via the toyline, a from 2018, and a UK release in #25 from 1978. I also dropped in a jewel from series, that features a patch designed from the comic book corner art. Luke Cage is a created by Archie Goodwin, Roy Thomas, and John Romita Sr. He is the result of timing. Shortly after blaxploitation films emerged and became a popular new genre. He was introduced as Marvel's first black character to originate in his own series, without a cameo in another title also with the cover trademark "Luke Cage, Hero for Hire" and the title "Hero for Hire." Because of it's blaxploitation roots, his stories were filled with alot of stereotypes of the era.
