Today’s Geek Post is all about Hurricane Erin. The eye of the storm passed between 250nm and 300nm mile southeast of Cape Cod, putting us on the outer edge of the northwest quadrant. While NE winds didn’t get much over 25 to 30 knots on land, seas offshore have been running 10 to 20 feet with some bigger readings on George’s Bank this morning. Significant wave heights are now 22 feet which is an average of the highest 1/3 of recorded waves and means there are definitely waves in the 30 foot range rolling through the offshore waters. Storm surf heights and the Chatham Bars will be 15-20’ on the face and treacherous. The bar is closed until further notice. SW winds tomorrow should make for some big and beautiful surf.
