We may still be without power, but we are dreaming of flowers and springtime.

Some of my favorite things at Island View Shores are the flowers 🌺 and the search for this heart-shaped 💗 rock and a Lower Michigan rock. During every visit, I set out to find these two rocks.

A 5-Minute Flight to Mackinac on an Eight-Seater
- Getting to Mackinac Island in the winter can be tricky. Some days the ferry doesn't run due to ice. Other days it’s running, but only once every 24 hours. This is when you have to take a plane.
- There’s no online booking for the flight from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island. It’s old school. We called Fresh Air Aviation about a week before wanting to fly, talked to the receptionist there, and booked the flight over the phone in about 15 minutes.
- Wearing jeans, knee pads, and a navy Fresh Air Aviation hoodie, our pilot, Forest, says he flies an average of 22 flights a day. At this point he’s done the trip thousands of times and says that it’s really no different than going through the drive-thru at McDonald’s.
- We came in from the west, touchdown gently, and were off the plane a few minutes later. Into the bitter wind. Dusty snow swirls on the runway. Waiting under the overhang was the horse taxi that took us to town.

Plane is the only way right now. Luckily that’s an option!

Due to the ice formation in the Straits of Mackinac over the last few days, we have to suspend our Winter Ferry Service. We will resume service as soon as conditions allow for safe passage. Until then, thank you for your patience, kindness and understanding! Until then, stay safe and warm! 💚⚓️❤️

Our kids (who aren’t so little anymore) have played a big role in making this house a home. From helping out with beach and lawn duties to cleaning the baseboards and choosing new fun games, they’ve been involved every step of the way. They’ve witnessed the incredible transformations of Lake Huron, from its astonishing highs to the lows that reveal their favorite jumping rocks. We hope you find a special place for your family to escape and cherish those little moments together!
