Just a fyi so that you know what the differences are

Clear's annual fee just rose again, from $209 to $219 as of July 1, 2026, the fourth increase in four years.

TSA PreCheck runs $77 to $85 for five years, and most travel credit cards reimburse it as a statement credit, so it is often close to free.

Global Entry costs $120 for five years, includes PreCheck automatically, and speeds you through passport control when you land back in the US from anywhere abroad.

NEXUS costs the same $120 and includes Global Entry and PreCheck, but it is built specifically for the US to Canada border, with a dedicated lane at land, air, and sea crossings.

The two overlap heavily, so the real question is simply whether Canada is a regular destination or just one of several countries you fly to.

Mobile Passport is the one most people skip. It is a free official CBP app with no enrollment or background check, and it leads to a shorter lane at passport control, not at security.

One catch: the old third party Mobile Passport apps were shut down, so download only the official CBP app, and check the signage since not every airport has the lane.

Stacking PreCheck with Clear covers fast domestic travel, and adding Global Entry or NEXUS on top covers international or Canada border re-entry without paying for a program you will rarely use.

🚨 MA*****NA POLICY – PLEASE READ 🚨
Carnival Cruise lines, just fyi
I’ve been getting a lot of private messages asking the same question:
“Is ma*****na or ma*****na products allowed on Carnival Cruise ships?”

Because of that, I wanted to address it all in one place so there’s no confusion.

❌ The short answer:

NO. Ma*****na, gummies, ma*****na vapes — NONE of it is allowed on Carnival Cruise Line. This INCLUDES for medical purposes.

They have a ZERO tolerance policy.

🐕 IMPORTANT: Canine detection dogs are now in use, and you WILL GET CAUGHT. The dogs are now being used:

* At embarkation (when you board)
* At ports of call
* On board the ship throughout the voyage

This has changed everything.

🚫 What happens if you get caught?

AT EMBARKATION (boarding the ship at home port):

* You will be denied boarding
* Possible criminal charges (embarkation ports are federal land, where ma*****na is still illegal.) ve
* You could be banned for life from Carnival

AT A PORT OF CALL (re-boarding in a foreign country):

* You will be denied re-boarding
* Possible criminal charges in that country
* You are responsible for getting yourself home at your own expense
* Possible lifetime ban from Carnival

On board (during the cruise):

* Security will search your cabin
* If anything is found:
* You will be confined (quarantined) to your cabin
* You will be removed from the ship at the next port
* Possible lifetime ban from Carnival

👉 There are NO exceptions anymore.

🤔 “But people say they sneak it on…”

Yes, you’ll always see comments from people saying they’ve done it and didn’t get caught.

That may be true — just like anything else, some people get away with things.

But ask yourself:

👉 Is it worth ruining your entire vacation?
👉 Is it worth being stranded in another country and paying your own way home?

With canine dogs actively searching every day, your chances of getting caught are higher than ever.

⚖️ Why is ma*****na not allowed?

There are several important reasons:

1. Federal & international laws
Even if it’s legal in your state, ma*****na is still illegal under federal law and in international waters.

2. Foreign country laws
Many ports Carnival visits have strict drug laws, some with severe penalties.

3. Guest comfort
Not all guests want to smell ma*****na — Carnival aims to keep the environment enjoyable for everyone.

4. Safety & liability
Cruise lines must maintain a safe, controlled environment onboard.

5. Port security agreements
Cruise lines must comply with agreements and regulations from multiple countries and port authorities.

Do NOT risk your cruise.
Do NOT try to sneak ma*****na, gummies, or vapes on board.

It’s simply not worth:

* Losing your vacation
* Facing criminal charges
* Paying your own way home
* Being banned for life

Take a picture of your passport and drivers license when you leave the cruise ship to go in port if you don’t want to take it with you, if/should circumstances arise where you need the info at least you have it stored safely in your phone

Many ask if you need a passport on a closed loop cruise. The passport is for your safety, if anything happens while you are in port and you happen to become sick or detained, you will need the correct documentation to return to the states, it is always better to have one even if you don’t really need one, anything can and does happen, be on the safe side.
