Day 49 ( Actually day 50, my counting skills are being questioned🤣 ) of driving through Mexico we left Escarcega and headed towards our final destination of Mèrida.
We drove by the Gulf of Mexico, and headed into the Yucatan.
Now the Highways on this leg of the trip were so much better. It was the first time in a while I didn’t have to worry about helping watching the road constantly for pot holes.
We headed towards our final our Airbnb for 10 days as we find our more permanent spot for the next year.

Day 49 of driving through Mexico, after our detour we had spent the night in Parasio and had the breakfast that was included and headed out to our next stop, Escárcega, since it looked like the protest for was still blocking us the other way.
So as we traveled, we noticed all the infrastructure work going on, both expanding and repaving roads. Even though the construction slowed us down, I am all about the work, some of these roads were just horrible, you would drive on the side slightly or on the opposite side of the road if no one was coming and that side looked better, with less pot holes. For my KC friends, it was worse than KC after winter. And with us having such a heavy load, we had to be cautious because you never knew when they would show up.
Our little hotel for the night was a great pick. When we had to change plans, I put my husband on charge of finding something, I was having a hard time.
He found Hotel Yaakunah, in Escarcega, you had to call to make a reservation, and we did before we left in the morning. You parked right in front of your door and there was a tv and the WiFi, the pool cooled you off after a long day of driving, dinner was great, we had steak, potatoes, pasta salad, green onion and sausage, salsas and cerveza. Then a fried plantain with sweetened condensed milk and cheese.
The owners are very friendly and we were able to chat with them while we swam. They speak a decent amount of English, along with Spanish and the wife also speaks Mayan, as she is from Mèrida.
We would highly recommend this stop for when you are driving though or visiting EscĂ rcega.

Day 48 of driving through Mexico. We had a good start to the day from Coatzacoalcos, and headed our way to Ciudad del Carmen.
In Coatzacoalcos, we were able to see the southern most point in the Gulf of Mexico, and then the new freight train that goes from the gulf to the pacific coast to compete with the Panama Canal on moving items around the World. From there as we headed out of the city, we saw large ships coming to port and a very large oil refinery.
Now on our way to Cuidad del Carmen and our beach stop, we were unable to get through on the one road that goes there. There were semis backed up for 6 plus miles and all cars were being told to turn around by the national gaurd because of a blockade that was going to go on for hours. It was a Saturday afternoon when we got there. So we turned around, took a whole bit found a new place for the night and figured out a new plan.
Once we got to our new hotel, we popped by the pool for 30 minutes or so, there was a celebration for a 15 year old girls birthday. Then we headed back up for dressed and went to the hotel’s restaurant for dinner.
The hotel also had a pool tables, and foosball table in the lounge/ bar/ disco area. We headed back up to our room for the night.
We did find out there was a protest and they blocked the road, a fishing village protesting the oil company that destroyed their livelihood. Now I do say that’s how you protest really inconvenience people. Those annoyed with the situation, proud of the protesters. I kept the protest went on at least through Sunday, maybe longer. Hopefully the fishermen got what they wanted.

Day 4 6, and 4 7 of driving through Mexico. We took day 46 and ate, packed and rested. The next morning we got our truck back after 5 weeks. We then packed it up and got it ready to go and said goodbye to our Airbnb host who was absolutely wonderful.
We headed to Coatzacoalcos for the night. The trip had some anxiety as we. Were towed back from just under half way. We made it through and our anxiety lowered a little. And we made it to our destination.
We got checked in and went out to dinner at a strip mall right by, it was so good, and so many shops in my shrimp with poblano sauce and cheese.
Then we headed back and got ready for the next day of travel.

Day 45 and 45 of driving through Mexico. So if you can’t tell we are major foodies. Day 45 we went out to Taquitos de Cordoba, right across the street from the other taco place we like.
We ordered this dish and had leftovers, when that boxed it up we got a whole other meal because it was a spy that day of buy one get one. So we were fed dinner the rest of the week.
The next morning we went out to breakfast? Ordered enchiladas, not sure what I was going to get as I ordered it con huevo and green sauce. No egg. Came with, or maybe she didn’t hear me. But the green juice was so good.
Then we went back, worked and relaxed at the Airbnb.

Day 41, 42, and 43 of driving through Mexico. We stayed on days 41 and 42. Then we went to breakfast on day 43 because our truck was getting close to ready, and didn’t want to waste groceries by trashing them because we did not have a refrigerator while traveling.
From breakfast we walked over to centro, stopping and getting a few staples. As you see the large hills that you walk towards the flat area in centro. From there we took the bus back to our place. We never figured out if we could take a bus back from other areas. All we know is all busses go to centro and the few that took us back from centro.

Day 40 of driving through Mexico. Fairly chill day. We walked to Walmart to meet a guy from marketplace about a dash cam. After the accident and the guy who hit us drove away, we thought it to be a good idea to get one. It was a really good one so we are happy.
Then we headed over to get some Raman and bubble tea. Was feeling some Asian food, and the selection is slim so we went to Good Tea. Now the tea was very good highly recommend. The ramen was spaghetti in a slight Asian sauce, with a good amount of protein.
Then we did a little shopping and took a DiDi back to our Airbnb.

Day 39, hanging out in downtown Còrdoba. The murals of Cordoba on the streets are a wonderful work of art. We headed over o a restaurant that surrounds the central plaza. Had a very nice dinner. Now I talked a little about the restaurants that see our pale skin and assume that we can’t handle spice. I know that have English teachers from the UK and from what I know about people from the UK is thy don’t do spice well. So I feel that is why we are once in a while getting skipped over on th spice in more prominent areas.
Watching the dancing of the couples in the square with the live music was wonderful. We had a great time people watching and enjoying the music. Then heading over to Sears felt like going back in time, since I have not seen one in many years.

Day 30- 6, 7 and 38. If you noticed I did 36 and 37 separately on my typing as my day 6 and 7 had gone viral for me. At this point over 10K views and lots of saves to the favorites.
So day 38 we did walk up to the Havana club, which is a pool, also has food, just to see what it was about. Did not get video, but it’s a medium sized pool and looked like an enjoyable place for the neighborhood. We popped by the fruiteria and mercado on the way back, to pick up up a few things. Otherwise we had a very chill day.
Also if you notice how dark th streets are, they burn sugarcane fields after harvest close to here as we are near the coffee and sugarcane areas of Mexico. So the ash from th burns fly all over the city and makes everything look that charcoal color.

Day 33, 34,35,and 36. We mostly stayed on as we had gotten full kilo of pastor. Instead of half as to our calculations flippingth wrong way. So 2 pounds of meat for the tow of us with all the fixings, tortillas, salsas, piña, onions, cilantro and grilled onions. It lasted us 6 days.
But we did got out for one evening and had a good time at La Barra. A local bar about a kilometer walk. They played 80’s music with videos, and football matches. We enjoyed a night out.
Then there was a deal for 2 for 1 smoothies and we decided to go for it.
