A brief study in toddler snacking.

In-home documentary sessions can look as simple as images like this -- the ones that capture the way they can fit all of those cheerios in their mouth at once, or the way they delicately pick up one at a time. You'll miss those details. I promise.

Every single day I am grateful to do this work. Capturing births is not for everyone, but it is what I am most deeply called to do. And 4 years ago today, I felt a little extra lucky as my nephew entered this world. I heard his cries and documented his tiny body being birthed & entering this family of ours. Another branch of our family tree.

I spent so much time studying his eyes, nose, and ears. Looking at every wrinkle in his hands & creases between his toes. I put my hand on his chest and felt his heartbeat and the movement of his body as he took in his first long deep breaths of oxygen.

Today, we get to celebrate all of the ways he has grown and changed and watch as he becomes a big kid who loves to throw himself at life. He is wild and gentle. He is the most intense big brother there ever was. He is defiant and creative in all the ways he approaches this world. And he never stops going or loving.

And for all of it, we are grateful to have him here and couldn't love him more. Happy Birthday, tiny human!

A bunch of years ago, the whole world stopped and shifted and we voted "pivot" as the word of the year. The pandemic postponed everyone's events and changed what plans would looks like and held captive dreaming of the future.

But this couple counted guests on their two hands. Created a fairyland dreamscape in a backyard. Found big joy in the smallest of spaces, including a kids trampoline. Gathered pieces of their hearts from across the world on an iPad via Zoom. And they reminded each other, their guests, and the world that regardless of how this hard moment was, the one thing we all knew to be true: Love would always conquer all.

Had the greatest time singing, spending time with & photographing Deborah Sacks Mintz for her concert held at Wilson Abbey and hosted by Base ANVL, Metro Chicago Hillel, Hadar's Rising Song Institute, and Chicago Young Leadership Division (YLD) last week. I could not be more honored or grateful for these opportunities! More photos to come over the next few weeks.
