Cruise question: How important is the private-island day to you? 🏝️

It's interesting how much those stops can factor into choosing a cruise now.

But here's what I'm more curious about: What do you actually want from that day?

Are you picturing a quiet chair by the water and a book? A pool and a fun atmosphere? Activities all day? A cabana splurge? Or is this the day when you want zero plans and zero alarm clocks? 😂

Because “I want a great private island” can mean something completely different from one traveler to the next.

What's YOUR perfect day there look like?

There are cruises that basically exist because the ship needs to get from one part of the world to another. They’re called repositioning cruises, and they can create some really interesting one-way itineraries you don’t see every week.

Okay, hypothetical:
You find an itinerary that crosses the Atlantic, gives you lots of sea days to actually enjoy the ship, and ends your vacation on another continent.

Adventure...or way too many days on that ship? 😂

You do NOT have to see everything.

I'd rather have a client come home completely in love with three experiences than exhausted because we crammed eleven things into four days.

Your vacation isn't a scavenger hunt. It took me YEARS to figure this out!! Ask anyone who traveled Disney with me years ago :)

"BUT WILL THERE BE DIET DR. PEPPER THERE?"

Things I have Googled while working on guests' vacations that would look VERY questionable without context:

“Can you walk from one side of Key West to the other?”

“How bad are mosquitoes in ______ in October?”

“Which side of the ship faces ______?”

“Is a 47-minute connection completely insane?” (ANSWER, yes!)

“How far is this hotel REALLY from the beach?”

"Will there be Dr. Pepper I can find at _____?"

This is the weird part of my job that nobody really sees.

One minute I'm comparing cruise cabins.

Ten minutes later I'm investigating whether there is a convenience store within walking distance of a hotel because somebody needs Diet Dr. Pepper and apparently this is now critical vacation information.

Honestly?

I kind of love this part.😝🤣

Don’t tell me where you want to go. Tell me how you want to feel.Seriously.You don't have to come to me knowing the ship...

Don’t tell me where you want to go.
Tell me how you want to feel.

Seriously.

You don't have to come to me knowing the ship, resort, island or even the country.

Tell me this instead:

“I am tired and I don't want to make decisions for 7 days.”

Or...

“We want to GO. We want to see things. We can sleep when we get home.”

Or...

“The kids need things to do or we're all going to lose our minds.” 😂

Or my personal favorite:

“I want somewhere beautiful, good food, a drink in my hand, and nobody needing anything from me.”

NOW you've given me something to work with.

Sometimes how you want the vacation to feel tells me a whole lot more than where you think you want to go.

So let's try it:

Don't name a destination. Describe your perfect vacation in ONE sentence.

And yes, “Nobody knows where I am” is an acceptable answer. 😂

You know what I almost NEVER start with when I'm looking for a cruise for someone?

The price.

I know. Weird coming from the person who's supposed to find you a good price.

I usually start with:

Who is going?

Because give me the exact same $3,000 budget for three different families and I could very easily send them on three completely different ships.

One wants shows and things going on constantly.

One wants to sit somewhere beautiful with a drink and absolutely nobody ask them to participate in anything. 😂

One cares WAY more about where we're going than what ship takes us there.

That's why when somebody asks me,

“What's the best cruise line?”

My real answer is...

For who?

Now I'm curious.

What's ONE thing a cruise absolutely has to have for you?

Not five things.

Your ONE!
