Heat Safety....

THE HEAT IS BACK

It’s going to be hot across Central Illinois over the next several days. A few things to keep in mind:

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty.

• Working outside or tackling yard work? Get an earlier start when possible, take plenty of breaks and save the hardest work for the cooler parts of the day. And yes, your neighbors still get to sleep, follow local noise ordinances.

• Keep an eye on each other. If someone starts acting confused, weak or just doesn’t seem right, get them out of the heat.

• Check on older family members and neighbors, young children, people with disabilities and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

• Never leave kids or pets in a parked vehicle — even for a few minutes.

• Keep pets hydrated, provide shade and watch hot pavement.

• Headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, heavy sweating and confusion can be signs of heat illness. Confusion, collapse or loss of consciousness is an emergency CALL 911.

• Avoid open burning during hot, dry conditions. Fires can spread quickly when grass and vegetation are dry.

• Be careful with ci******es, mowers, equipment, hot exhaust, sparks and anything else that could ignite dry grass.

Use some common sense, take care of yourself and check on your people.
