13 years ago today, our boat Captain & guide, Don McCumber, shot this video in the morning twilight as Diana Nyad approached Key West during her epic swim. Nyad swam 110 miles, without ever holding onto her support boat or kayaks. It took her 53 hours to complete the swim from Cuba to Key West. Don was the Captain of Diana's kayak team. In this video you can see the glow of Key West, and you can just make out twinkling lights on the horizon ahead of Diana. She is wearing a small red light on the back of her swim cap.

A very rare sight, during today's "Dolphin, Birding, and Wildlife" tour! A baby Smalltooth Sawfish! This one is about 2 1/2 feet long. These fish are members of a family that includes rays and sharks. The adults can grow to be as much as 18 feet in length! Book a tour with us at (239) 695-3633

This time of year, manatees (Chubby Mermaids) can be hard to spot, because they move from their winter locations to scattered seagrass beds near the shores of the 10,000 Islands. One of our tour groups was able to witness this mating congregation of manatees, up close! Watch!

Tunicates, or sea squirts, are surprising evolutionary cousins to humans. Despite looking like simple, stationary blobs as adults, their free-swimming larvae possess a notochord, dorsal nerve cord, and post-anal tail. During a tour, we watched this raccoon licking leaves to get the morning dew. The raccoons in the 10,000 Islands are smaller than mainland raccoons, due to the lack of freshwater. If your body is smaller you can survive with less water .
