Dropstone Outfitting caters to people who want to explore the Bob Marshall Wilderness on foot without the burden of a heavy pack. Our guided backcountry hiking trips are accompanied by a small string of pack stock that carry your gear and food. We focus on travelling with minimum impact to the land while providing you with good food, good company, and a specific knowledge of the Bob Marshall Wild

erness. We provide “theme” centered trips, such as “Yoga in the Scapegoat Wilderness” as well as client-designed trips. We are located in north central Montana, just a few miles from one of the largest wilderness areas in the lower 48 states. Come explore the wilder side of the west with us!

Hike the Scapegoat Wilderness this September! We have a few spots left on our Sept. 2 - 8, 2026 trip. This guided, stock supported hiking adventure includes exploring along the base of the iconic Scapegoat Wall, a scramble up to the Plateau, and a saunter along the clear rock pools of the Dearborn River.

Oh, and did we mention that September is our favorite month to hike in Montana? You can't beat the crisp nights, warm days and changing colors to highlight the beauty of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
