It’s time for Give Local NRV 2025! A donation of $100 provides the funding for a child's age-appropriate toys. How special is that, knowing that the NEW toys a local child receives during the holiday season are fully funded by your $100 donation? MCCS families also receive NEW clothing for each child, food, and household goods.
Please help us meet our goal of $16,000, which goes towards helping families in need during the Christmas Season. The 12th Annual Online Giving Day kicks off at noon on Wednesday, June 26th, and will end at noon on Thursday, June 27th. Any donations received between June 1st and noon on June 27th will count toward our overall giving day total. Please help support our most vulnerable citizens.

Chadd Yeatts has handled the Eddie Yeatts Memorial Golf Tournament for 15 years to honor the memory of his father, Eddie Yeatts, by giving back to the community. The proceeds from the annual tournament supported many charities in the New River and Roanoke Valleys.

The Montgomery County Christmas Store was fortunate to be one of the 7 charities they supported. Over the years, the Store was given over $60,000 from the tournament’s proceeds to help carry out the Store’s mission of providing Christmas to low-income families in Montgomery County.

Although we understand the reasons Chadd is taking a pause on having the Eddie Yeatts Memorial Golf Tournament fundraiser, we will miss seeing Chadd and his family every year at a Board meeting to present the generous check and to thank them for their support over the years.

Hopefully, the Eddie Yeatts Memorial Foundation and Chadd will find a way to continue honoring his father in the future and we will have a part of whatever they decide to do to continue giving back to the community.

Chadd, we are grateful for your generous support and wish you the best in the future.

The Board of the Montgomery County Christmas Store met May 12 at the Store. New president, Diane Thompson, chaired the meeting and new board members, committee members and At-Large members were introduced. Welcome to all the new people who have agreed to serve on the Board.
There are several new vacant positions on the Board-Events Coordinator and Liaison Coordinator. If you are interested in learning more about these positions, please reply to this post.
Diane presented a gift to outgoing president, Kim O'Rourke, and thanked her for her years of service as president. Fortunately, Kim is remaining on the Board as an At-Large member to help with the transition of the new Board.
Although the doors to the Store are closed to the public until November, much work is already being done behind the doors to get ready for Store Week in December. Department shoppers began hitting the sales the day after Christmas and are busy spending their budgets to fill the shelves with new, stylish clothing.
The outside of the building has a new coat of paint due to John, Beth, and a number of volunteers. The Main Street entry doos have been replaced, and Rick continues to manage all the maintenance work that goes into keeping the old building safe and sound for us to use.
Everyone is looking forward to working together to provide the best Christmas Store Week ever to help our neighbors in need have a good Christmas in 2025.

"A most amazing woman, Evelyn Graves West, 102 years and 7 months young, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 24, 2025," begins the obituary to Evelyn West. It is with sadness that we share the loss of a wonderful woman with our Montgomery County Christmas Store family.
I had the honor of knowing Mrs. West when I picked up hundreds of knit caps and prayer shawls that she and her knitting friends made for the Christmas Store. Over the years, she donated between 125-172 knit caps a year and countless prayer shawls. She had already knit 35 caps for the year's Store before her passing.
Evelyn West had a wonderful life and made so many knit items that many of our shoppers were able to choose and use. She will be missed by many for her generous contributions and for serving others in our community.

The Board of the Montgomery County Christmas Store held its monthly board meeting Monday night. Two very important business items were on the agenda. First, the budget for 2025 was approved. Thank you to our thousands of donors that make it possible for us to meet our budget. Departments have already been busy stretching their allotted budgets to buy wonderful new items to stock the shelves for our neighbors in need in Montgomery County.
Second, a new President and Vice-President were voted on for the Board of the 2025 Christmas Store. Congratulations to Diane Thompson, the new board president, and Vicky Dierckx, the new vice president!

Behind locked doors, the work of the Montgomery County Christmas Store goes on all year. Buyers begin hitting the sales the day after Christmas to stretch their budget dollars and find the best deals to purchase goods to fill the shelves in the departments.
Lots of work awaits the dedicated volunteers of the Eligible Adults Department.
Betty Moore, Kathy Pollard and Kathy Fowler look at the large number of carts loaded with new goods to process for the Adult Department.
Debbie Sherman-Lee begins getting shoes organized for the 2025 Store Week in December.
Beth Patterson looks over the large array of robes purchased for the Adult Department.
It takes our committed volunteers working all year long to prepare the Christmas Store to greet our eligible shoppers during Store Week in December. Thank you to all our caring volunteers who work all year to care for our neighbors in need in Montgomery County.

During store week, we handed out fliers for Sleep in Heavenly Peace - VA, New River Valley to parents. More than 25 applications were filled out so far, resulting in over 60 children who are no longer sleeping on the floor! If you know of a child who does not have a bed, please reach out to this wonderful organization. If your church or civic group is interested in sponsoring a bed build, please let them know.
