The Board of the Montgomery County Christmas Store is so fortunate to have Rick as Building Coordinator for the Store. The Store is old but he keeps fixing it up so we can use it. Here is a report of the latest project he handled:

Lacking confidence in a 30 year old problematic boiler, the Christmas Store worked with A1 Heating and Cooling to install much more efficient dual Navien condensing, tankless, on demand boilers. The boilers will only heat the water needed for a heat cycle and not have to maintain a large volume of hot water. With the new boiler we anticipate a significant natural gas savings.
The new system comes with Smart thermostats which will make remote monitoring during inclement weather much easier as well.
Rick.

Cheryl Tyndall Moore posted the message:

"My dad, Glenn Tyndall, founded the Christmas Store. He passed away last month and we are having his memorial service in a few weeks so I am looking for photos of him working at the Store starting back in like 1980 to share in a slideshow about his life."

Do any of you have any photos you can share with her?

John shared that Javier is a VT student who started volunteering last week at the Store. He plans to volunteer several more times when he comes back from summer break.

Thank you, Javier, for volunteering to help us keep the Montgomery County Christmas Store tidy. We so appreciate your help as we work to get the Store ready for Store Week in December.

Look at these young members of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church who came to the Montgomery County Christmas Store to work on Saturday! They sorted donations, swept and vacuumed floors and organized the basement area.

Because of wonderful help like this all year long behind closed doors, the Store is able to get ready for opening one week in December. Thank you for helping us get ready to serve our neighbors in need at Christmas.

Montgomery County Emergency Assistant Program (MCEAP) is having a fundraiser at Eastern Divide on Friday, May 8 from 4-8pm. MCEAP Thrift Store is absolutely the best thrift store in the area and serves low income people with so many programs. Everyone, even the boss, Margie, is a volunteer at the Store. We volunteer there because it is our "happy place" and we feel we make a difference in the lives of so many in Montgomery County.
Please drop by on Friday, enjoy some beverages and bid on silent auction items and help us take care of our neighbors in need!
A portion of proceeds from pint sales and 100% of proceeds from the silent auction which includes artworks, themed baskets and gift cards will go to MCEAP.

The work at the Montgomery County Christmas Store never ends. The boiler in the building gave out in December. The boiler was 29 years old so Rick, Building Coordinator, contacted several companies and chose one to replace the aging boiler. You can see them cutting up the old boiler so they did not have to use a crane to remove it.

Thanks, Rick, for keeping our old building in working order so we can serve our neighbors in need during Christmas Store Week in December.

National Volunteer Week 2026 is April 19 to April 25. As "Beth in Books" in charge of the Book Area of the MCCS, I want to recognize and thank the dozens of community volunteers who gather, sort, prepare, refresh, shelve, and distribute all the books that are donated throughout the year. The carts pictured give a small taste of the books that have come in since late January, many donated by the wonderful folks at Blacksburg's independent bookstore, Blacksburg Books. Others made their way to us through donations by individuals and groups. Pictures show work crews who cleared up our basement overflow of books that came in too late to shelve for the December store opening. Volunteers also inventoried our tiny upstairs storage and our depleted post-shopping shelves. Volunteers will continue to work through the summer and fall as books come in from our supportive community donors. For more information on donating or volunteering, please see the Books notice on the MCCS website at https://www.mcchristmasstore.org/books. And please remember from all of us at the MCCS: VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT PAID, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE WORTHLESS, BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE PRICELESS.

A big thank you to Corporal Tarter during Property & Evidence Professionals week! πŸŽ‰ Amongst his many titles and tasks, Tarter serves as VTPD's Evidence Custodian.
This role is critical to ensuring the integrity and security of property and evidence in VTPD's storage. His attention to detail is vital to assisting our officers, community members, and beyond! Even Ringo🐴 is extra proud of his pal.
Thank you for all of your hard work and well done, Tarter πŸ‘

Look at our Tater! John serves on the Board of the Montgomery County Christmas Store and always does a great job for the Christmas Store. Thank you, John, for all you do!

Merv is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County/Blacksburg and they asked him for an update on how the 2025 Montgomery County Christmas Store went last year.
So Merv asked Terri Lynn who does Public Relations on the Board to go and talk to his organization.
We were treated to lunch and then Meghan Kuczmarski, Past President of the club introduced us as speakers. Terri Lynn spoke about the financial standing of the Christmas Store. Vicky Ball spoke about the the new Voucher Programs and Therese told them about her work with Eligibility to go out into the community to try to reach our neighbors in need. Thank you to Kiwanis for inviting us to share our passion for the work of the Christmas Store,
Doug Butts, President of Kiwanis, poses with Terri Lynn, Therese, and Vicky.
