Congratulations Darren Beck on finishing your first 100 miler at Rocky Mountain Milestone Challenge.

whit_finity ran the full 100 miles together with Darren. Kat Jones Beck Darren’s lovely wife and source of energy, also fuel to Darren’s journey.

Again, congratulations on achieving a dream that was far from easy and took coming back at again and again.

We are excited to see you in Porto today at the Catalonia Hotel!

We will meet in the lobby at 2pm today.

Today is a great day to explore Porto on your own, relax and enjoy the outdoor pool or indoor spa with sauna, or stroll or take a run down on the Douro River.

We will leave for a walk at 6pm and go to dinner at Honest Green. If you prefer to skip the walk we will eat at 7pm.

Some final travel notes for those coming on our mainland Portugal trip beginning Saturday, July 11th.

The EU has updated their system for entry and travelers are experiencing delays. In the 12 years we have led groups in Portugal typically it takes 20 minutes to get through customs but today took us 2 hours.

You can download the Travel to Europe AP and complete it. The line split in two and we entered the manual entry with an agent but individuals who went through the automated line were about an hour faster. We’re sorry for the inconvenience as they work to improve on this new system.

Subsequently, it is also difficult to pick up guests from the airport because it’s hard to predict when people will finish and it’s slow to get to the airport with the van.

Please choose one of two options. The fastest is the metro and it’s really simple. It’s 2.90 euro and you get on the train to Trinidad. You get off at the main station Trinidad and La Catalonia Hotel is less than 1 mile walking. It’s perhaps 20 minutes on the train but it’s really the quickest route.

Option 2, if you don’t feel comfortable with the metro you can take an uber or taxi to the hotel. We will reimburse 30 euro.

It’s a safe area. It’s always wise to carry your passport and money in a money belt and be mindful of your surroundings.

Finally, temperatures are near 60 degrees for the low. If you haven’t left the United States yet, be sure to have a jacket and a couple things to wear in the early morning or late evening to feel warm enough.
