People think they're helping. But bears that become reliant on human food sources often end up being euthanized. Bears can quickly lose their fear of humans and associate them with a resource for food. When this happens, it can lead to conflicts that put them and the humans in danger. Bears can remember a food source for YEARS and they can smell food from more than a mile away. Bears will break into cars and homes once they have identified those locations as a place for a quick snack. Their intention isn't to hurt anyone; it's to EAT.

If you see a bear, admire from a distance. There's no need to report to DNR unless it is aggressive, sick, or approaching people. Bears cannot be relocated and often, they are simply passing through the area. Bring in all cat food, bird feeders, etc and DO NOT try to interact with them in any way. Your intervention could be the cause of their untimely death. Please. Respect the bears.

Nice cozy cottage near some of the great hiking trails of Helen.
