** Hey all fishing enthusiasts,

Looking out at my yard on Rock Creek, it's hard to believe some of us will be on our rivers in less than 3 weeks. My yard has soooo much snow—I'm still playing Christmas music!

The mountains of western Montana are being pummeled by dime-sized snowflakes, and the 30 year snow pack is close to 90%. That is a good thing.

Year after year, many of our Idaho and Washington clients come fish with us in the Spring (March and April) because they know the Skwala stone flies and the March brown mayflies will be active. As most of you know, our main waters in the Spring are the Clark Fork, Bitterroot, Missouri and Rock Creek.

In the last few years, late April and early May have been great fishing too. Sometimes we end up only fishing the Missouri, but there’s still a lot of fish and fun to be had. Last year, the salmon fly hatch in late May and June on Rock Creek was epic, and most of the fish averaged between 14 and 17 inches, which is pretty good for a stream that small. The numbers of fish caught on large salmon fly patterns was great too!

We have added a few new things to the Clark Fork River Lodge, and we expect the fishing on the lower Clark Fork to be as good as it was last year. Darrell and Doug Whitman did a bang up job of cooking at the lodge last year, and they are very excited about 2017. We still have many openings for the Clark Fork River Lodge in August and September.

Our great friend and fellow outfitter Joe Sowerby still has Smith River and South Fork River trips available. The Smith River is one of the most beautiful places in Montana to camp, float and catch fish!

Here is a current list of the openings on the Smith River:
1) May 10-14 room for 6 guests
2) May 18-22 room for 4 guests
3) May 20-24 room for 4 guests
4) May 28-June 1 room for 8 guests
*The cost per person for these Smith River trips is $3900 per person based on double occupancy.

The South Fork is a great and majestic adventure through the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The adventure begins with a horse ride in and ends with a float out on the Flathead River. This trip is a great addition to your bucket list.

Here is a list of the current open dates for the South Fork:
1) July 11-17 room for 4 guests
2) July 25-30 room for 4 guests
3) July 31- August 6 room for 8 guests
4) August 10-16 Room for 8 guests
*The cost per person for the South Fork Adventure is $5950 per person based on double occupancy.
