Day two of my South African journey from Johannesburg to Cheetah Plains took us by small plane to a remote airstrip and then into the spectacular Sabi Sand Nature Reserve.

Cheetah Plains combines sophisticated private-villa accommodations with an immersive wilderness experience. Imagine enjoying lunch while hippos and elephants frolic in the water outside your villa, followed by a game drive where your first elephant encounter comes within minutes!

I was especially impressed by the lodge's fully electric safari vehicles and its integration of solar power and sustainability into the guest experience.
