Are you considering bringing your pet with you to the park? Yellowstone is a wild place, and bringing a pet may limit your activities in the park. Be sure to check our regulations before your visit:

🐶 Pets are only allowed in developed areas and must stay within 100 feet (30.5 meters) of roads, parking areas, and campgrounds.

🐶 Pets are not allowed on boardwalks, hiking trails, in the backcountry, or in thermal areas, regardless of being on a leash or carried (in arms, strollers, backpacks, carriers, etc.).

🐶 Pets must be physically controlled at all times, whether in a car, crate, or on a leash.

🐶 Pets may not be left unattended or tied to objects, and they may not be left in a situation where food, water, shade, ventilation, or other basic needs are inadequate.

🐶 Owners must bag and dispose of pet waste.

These policies exist to help protect our beloved pets from being killed by predators, to protect them from being burned or killed in hot springs, to prevent the exchange of diseases between domestic animals and park wildlife, and to protect others.

Great History!

- The Beartooth Highway was completed in June 1936. It was built under the auspices of the National Approach Road Act, which was intended to provide scenic approach roads to the country’s national parks. The Beartooth Highway was the only road built under the act and was not a New Deal project during the Great Depression.
