Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.

“As long as I live, I'll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing. I'll interpret the rocks, learn the language of flood, storm, and the avalanche. I'll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens, and get as near the heart of the world as I can"

John Muir is my spirit animal.

Coal Creek trail in the Panhandle National Forest... We did the first 2 miles of this 4+ (each way) trail. Its basically all uphill and follows the beautiful creek along its path through forest. Old mining evidence can be seen along the way as well. Apparently it merges with other national forest trails after the 4 mile mark!

To get there: Take exit 43 (Kingston) off I-90 and turn towards the Snake Pit. Pull off is at 13.1 miles up FR 9 on the right. There is a National Forest sign right before the turnoff, and a wooden sign that says Coal Creek vertically. There are a few primitive campsites along the entrance area. No toilets or potable water. Mainly walk in as the road is pretty rough.

40+ miles walked and hiked this week due to the release of Pokemon Go and the need to Catch 'em All. Nothing like yet another excuse to get outside!

Settler's Grove of Ancient Cedars & a stop at Thompson Pass for sunset pictures before heading home. Ended up walking a few miles extra since the road to the trail head at the cedar grove is closed halfway up.

Explored Gardner Cave and went to the Canadian border in Crawford State Park, Washington. Pictures forthcoming. We also went to Boundary Dam, Box Canyon Dam, and Sweet Creek Falls. Found some geocaches and hiked/walked close to 6 miles!

March 24-28/29th is a hiking and adventure trip to the Olympic Peninsula. Looking for ideas of things to see and do this time or year. There is a lot on the list already, but I am always looking for more, especially the "off the beaten path" unknown stuff. Let me know! All of the Peninsula is game, weather permitting [my adventure car is a Scion XD, not 4WD]
