The Police Department will spend the next week conducting checks on parked vehicles and trailers throughout town.

The primary violations we will be checking on are abandoned vehicles, disabled vehicles, and storing trailers/campers/machinery on the streets

Sec. 93. Parking Disabled and Other Vehicles.

(a) No person shall park or store any farm machinery, trailer or semitrailer of any kind, or parts of the same, or any dead, damaged or disabled motor vehicle or farm machinery, trailer or semitrailer of any kind, in the roadway of any highway, or between the property line or sidewalk and the curb line of any street.

(b) A person shall not use the public highway to abandon vehicles or use the highway to leave vehicles unattended in such a manner as to interfere with public highway operations. When a person leaves a motor vehicle on a public highway or other property open to use by the public, the city having jurisdiction of such highway or other property open to use by the public, after 48 hours or when the motor vehicle interferes with public highway operations, may remove and impound the motor vehicle. (K.S.A. 8-1102)

§ 14-208 TRUCK PARKING
(a) No truck, truck trailer, tractor trailer, trailer, mobile home, boat, machinery or equipment shall be parked for more than two hours of any 24-hour period on any street or alley within the single-family, duplex and multiple-family zoned districts (R-1; R-2; R-3) or the mobile home community zoned district (R-2MH) as defined and designated by the zoning ordinance of the city.

City Offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th. The City of Colby Public Works Department will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. The Monday sanitation route will be picked on Tuesday, May 26th. Please have grass & trash tippers out by 8:00 am.

🌊 The wait is almost over!
Our Aquatic Park is gearing up to open this Saturday (weather permitting).

Normal hours of operation will be 12:30pm to 7pm on weekends, and 12:30pm to 6pm Monday through Friday. Check our website for more information: https://www.cityofcolbyks.gov/268/colby-aquatic-park

The City of Colby is thankful for the hard work and dedication provided by the Colby Electric Department. Crews worked a 24 hour shift through the night Sat. - Sunday, followed by a 14 hour shift on Monday, and are back at it on Tues. May 19th. Twelve pole structures were replaced as well as five transformer replacements to restore power after Saturday’s storm.

Update on electrical service:

Line crews have been out all night working on the outage. Power is still out for the neighborhoods in the northwest section of Colby. Please be patient as the crew works diligently to restore power.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026 the Electric Department will have a scheduled power outage. This scheduled outage will start at 4 a.m. and estimated completion is unknown. Please do not contact Colby Communications (911 Dispatch) or the Power Plant to report this outage as these departments are already aware of the outage. The area affected by this outage is reflected on the map. This outage is so the Electric department can do system upgrades and maintenance for the Power Plant Substation. For questions regarding this outage, contact Brad Davis, Electric Utility Director at 785-460-4431.
