PRESS RELEASE
[Colby, KS] – [August 31, 2026] – City of Colby, Kansas is warning local residents and businesses about an active scam involving individuals falsely posing as “Colby Electric.” It has been reported that these scammers are calling customers by name and asking for payment for utilities. The caller id number has been reported coming from a 703-area code. Do not give them payment or any confidential information as they are not affiliated with the City of Colby.

The City of Colby Public Works will be closed on Monday, September 7th for observance of Labor Day.
Residential trash for Monday, September 7th will be picked up on Tuesday, September 8th.

With ongoing events throughout the day for the Thomas County Fair, the Colby Aquatic Park will not be opened Saturday, August 1st. We apologize for any inconvenience. Have a great weekend and enjoy the fair.

The City of Colby is now accepting sealed bids for some surplus property from multiple departments. Information on the items is available on the website at https://www.cityofcolbyks.gov/bids.aspx. Bids accepted until Aug. 5th at 2pm at City Hall.

Tuesday, July 28th will be the Thomas County Fair Parade. Street closures for the parade will be Franklin from 8th to Cedar. Range Ave will be shut down as the parade crosses on Cedar to the Fairgrounds. Please clear the street parking on Franklin by 5 p.m. Franklin Ave will be closed down around 5:15 p.m. to allow the parade to start at 5:30 p.m.
With the expected high temperatures be sure to stay hydrated and have sun protection.
