Happy Eifel Tower Day! This day commemorates the completion and dedication of the Eiffel Tower in 1889. This photo was taken in 2007 from the upper balcony of the original Notre Dame Cathedral. Even after the fire, the rooftop still has these strange, mysterious sculptures called "grotesques" (surprisingly not "gargoyles") that make it seem magical.

Are you flying on vacation this summer? Just a reminder, beginning May 7, 2025, you'll need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license/ID or another acceptable form of identification (like a passport), to board domestic flights.

Make an appointment sooner rather than later. The DMV is likely to get busier and busier the closer we get to May. ;)

Lighthouses are always popular characters on the travel scene. They usually sit in dramatic, picturesque locations, like Svörtuloft Lighthouse in Iceland. They have a sturdy, iconic shape and we are all in love with them! 🧡

But did you know that the first lighthouse was in Egypt? Or that the US is home to more lighthouses than any other country? Lighthouse keeping was also one of the first U.S. government jobs available to women during the late 19th century!

Though many are in retirement, these ancient castles of navigation are still relevant today. They are literally the light in the darkness, and I hope we all will take many more portraits of them. ⛯

I absolutely adore Iceland! That's why I'm incredibly excited about the recent Southwest/Icelandair partnership – and you should be too!

In a nutshell, this collaboration means Southwest can now offer flights to Europe. 🎉 This is huge news because Southwest Rapid Rewards points can soon be used for international travel!

Southwest passengers can access Icelandair's extensive network of European destinations, including Iceland, but it's not available for booking just yet. Flights are expected to be offered early this year, so be on the lookout!

New year, new travel requirements. 😃 Here are a few things to be aware of for 2025 travel:

- Starting May 7, 2025, a REAL ID will be required for domestic air travel within the United States.
- From January 8, 2025, U.S. citizens traveling to the UK will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).
- Expected May 2025: U.S. citizens traveling to most European countries will likely need to apply for an Electronic Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) before their trip.
- Finally, recent regulations will require airlines to provide easier refunds for canceled flights, clearly define significant delays, and offer refunds for delayed baggage and other services.

Hopefully these new requirements will help ensure a safer, smoother travel experience for everyone. 🌍

My family recently returned from a trip to the Big Island. In an attempt to keep my 13 year old son engaged (I know...who needs to be engaged when they are in Hawaii!?! Answer: Him) we brought Hawaii Hedorah along with us. He is a Godzilla character who was able to experience Hawaii for the first time. ;) We had a contest to see who could take the best picture of Hedorah soaking up the Aloha spirit. I'm pretty sure I'm the winner. 🌺🍹🥥

Good news, travelers! A new federal rule went into effect today requiring U.S. airlines to provide cash refunds to passengers for significantly delayed or canceled flights. No more vouchers! The new rule mandates that refunds are automatically processed by an airline if a passenger’s flight is “canceled or significantly changed, and they do not accept the significantly changed flight, rebooking on an alternative flight, or alternative compensation.”

This is another win for the air traveler! 🏆🥳
