This isn't just a door.

This is the Holy Door to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.

While pilgrims are able to see this door whenever they conclude the Camino, the door is only opened during a Jacobean or Holy Year, when the Feast of St. James falls on a Sunday (this only happens 14 times per century).

2027 is one of those years. Join us for a Camino of a lifetime! Explore trips on our website today.

A good backpack is an essential companion on any long pilgrimage!

Your bag holds your clothes, your gear, and your food and water.

On the Camino de Santiago, your backpack might also have a shell hanging on it and carry your credencial, signs of your journey along the Way.

Check out some of the backpacks that accompanied our pilgrims on a recent journey on the Camino Portuguese!

Here are 10 tips for anyone planning to walk the Camino de Santiago!

Pray: Begin each morning in prayer. Offer the day to the Lord as you begin your daily pilgrimage.

Start Slow: Begin with shorter distances to allow your body to adjust.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout your walk.

Plan Your Stops: Know where you’ll rest and stay each night.

Listen to Your Body: Rest if you feel pain or discomfort.

Meet Fellow Pilgrims: Engage with other walkers; it enriches your journey.

Respect Local Customs: Be courteous and respectful to locals and their traditions.

Stay Safe: Keep an eye on your belongings and be aware of your surroundings.

Pack Light: Carry only the essentials to avoid unnecessary strain.

Document Your Journey: Keep a journal or take photos.

Enjoy the Moment: Take time to soak in the scenery and experience.

For those who have traveled the Camino before, what would you add to this list?
