What a difference two years can make! 😳

The first photo shows the Rhine River this summer, while the second was taken from nearly the same spot during our European trip for the 2024 Olympics. The difference in the water level is incredible!

The castle pictured is Pfalzgrafenstein Castle near Kaub, Germany. Built in 1327 on a small island in the middle of the Rhine, it once served as a toll station for passing ships and is normally accessible only by ferry. This summer, it has even experienced closures because of the extremely low water.

Much of Europe is facing severe drought and unusually low river levels this year. Seeing such a dramatic change in a place we personally visited makes it feel so much more real. 🌍💧🏰
