It's officially 'Ber szn in Otsego County 🍂🎃 — six (count 'em SIX) festivals this month, plus Fly Creek C***r Mill campaigning for a national title, Harvest, Kite and Artisan fests in Cooperstown, Oneonta and beyond, and farm stands and markets stacked with more veg than your trunk can legally hold.

We put it all in this month's email so you're not the last to remember September 🗓️.

Read it, then sign up - because "member"-ing to check your inbox is the easiest 'Ber-month move you'll make all season. https://www.thisiscooperstown.com/enewsletter-signup/

Dave Neil sets up with a food truck and suddenly the whole "where do locals actually eat" question answers itself. Fresh, local, killer views included, zero pretense. Wed–Sat, 11am–5pm. You're welcome.

Forty-five minutes from Cooperstown, there's a village the federal government spent sixty years trying to put underwater. It's still here. All 114 buildings. Every street. The whole thing is on the National Register - the first village in New York State listed in its entirety.

Swipe through for a full day in Gilbertsville: a Tudor manor in a clapboard valley, a bakery you'll want to yourself, four shops on one street that are each worth the drive alone, fourteen acres of free sculpture on an open hillside, goat yoga on a 125-acre farm, and dinner by three fireplaces at a building that survived an 1874 fire that took half the block.

The best day to go is Saturday. The GEM Music and Arts Festival - August 29, free, rain or shine, 3 to 8 PM at the sculpture park - is the day to build the whole guide around.

Otsego Lake, also known as Glimmerglass, does not require a piano player to make its case. It has been making its case, wordlessly, since the last glacier retreated. Billy Joel simply noticed. The lake has not commented.

Locals around here have been quietly living inside a landscape painting and telling absolutely nobody.

Morris, New York. Population: unhurried. Daily forecast: pink water at dawn, wildflowers at golden hour, stars that make you feel cosmically insignificant in the best possible way. We have entire towns out here that the algorithm has never found. The cows know. The fireflies know. Now you know.

The Butternut Valley said "one event? How about FIVE events across TWO weekends in THREE towns" and honestly we respect the chaos.

It starts Saturday, August 22 at Butternuts B**r & Ale in Garrattsville: the BVA 5K Hellbender Cross-Country Run at 9:30 a.m. for the runners, the Central New York Cycling Butternut Valley Gravel Grinder for the cyclists who needed 48 miles to feel something, and the Summer Harvest Festival at 1 for everyone else who just wants live music, local vendors, good food, and an outdoor movie under valley skies.

Sunday, August 23 brings the Morris Music Festival to The Gatehouse Coffee Shop & Mercantile in Morris — proof that the valley does not believe in rest.

And on Saturday, August 29, GEM Sculpture Park in Gilbertsville hosts the Free GEM Music & Arts Festival from 3-8PM, because the Butternut Valley Alliance was not done with you yet.

All of this is real. All of it is happening. You have no excuse.

The Fenimore Farm & Country Village has horses. Several, in fact. They are not asking for your opinion on the matter.

Public service announcement: the geese at the Fly Creek C***r Mill are self-employed, keep no set hours, and definitely respond to corn-based bribery. But still, admire from a respectful distance. They will 100% judge your picnic lunch.

Technically, yes, it's a farmer's market. But once you're there - fresh-cut flowers in one hand, warm baked good in the other, a stranger telling you about their heirloom tomatoes - you start to wonder if "farmers market" really covers it.

Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Just off Main Street. See you there.

The Parade of Legends is here. Tomorrow at 6pm, Hall of Famers roll through downtown Cooperstown while the whole town turns out to cheer — but here's what makes this year historic: 61 Hall of Famers are in town this weekend, the most ever assembled at one time. They may not all have a float today, but they'll be repped, and they'll all be here Sunday. Get there early to claim your spot, and lean on our survival guide at inductionweekend.com. 📸 , Milo Stewart Jr, Kieran Dougherty
