Established in 1974, the South Slough NERR is an ideal destination for visitors and locals to find peace and reconnect with nature along their well-maintained hiking trails, paddle the water trails, or stop by the Visitor Center to learn about ongoing research and restoration work. Welcome visitors! Thereā€™s a lot happening in town this weekend, from the Bay Area Fun Festival and the Annual Cruz the Coos and Show-n-Shine to the Prefontaine Race and so much more.

While you're here, swing by the Visitor's Center at 50 Central Avenue, Coos Bay (across from the Coos Bay boardwalk). Our friendly volunteers are ready to help you make the most of your time here, with plenty of resources and local tips to get you started.

Hall Lake is one of those special under-the-radar destinations that doesnā€™t get much coverage, but offers locals and visitors a blissful day in nature by the water, whether itā€™s swimming, kayaking, exploring the surrounding dunes, or just relaxing in the sun. It features a free day-use area , a sandy swimming beach with clear water (great for summer), and easy access to hiking trails and non-motorized dunes.

šŸ“You can find it near Lakeside, about 15 miles north of North Bend, just off Highway 101 across from William M. Tugman State Park.

Did you know September is International Color Blindness Awareness Month? Color vision deficiency affects roughly 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women, over 350 million people worldwide, causing colors like green and yellow, gray and pink, or red and brown to blend together instead of appearing distinct. To give you an idea, the images on the left show what people with typical color vision see. The images on the right are how they appear to people with color blindness.

With so much natural beauty and color along Oregon's Adventure Coast, we want everyone to experience it fully, so we offer free loaner EnChroma colorblind-correcting glasses. You can borrow outdoor pairs for up to 7 days, and indoor pairs are available during your visit at Coos Art Museum, Coos History Museum, and the Charleston Marine Life Center.

Shore Acres State Park never ceases to fill you with wonder, whatever the season. Before the 7-acre botanical garden transforms into a magical holiday wonderland from November 26 through December 31, the blooms are basking in their late summer glow right now.

September is one of the best months to visit Shore Acres State Park. The garden is bursting with color, with a growing display of blooms including dazzling dahlias that will peak into October. Beyond the flowers, Shore Acres offers a scenic trail with some of the best views on Oregon's Southern Coast.
