In honor of Earth Day, we are featuring my favorite tree, the Red Mangrove. Mangroves grow around coastal intertidal zones and have an intricate root system that protects shorelines from storm surge and filters sediment and pollutants before reaching the ocean. Their roots provide refuge for for juvenile fish, birds and abundant wildlife.

The Petroglyphs were carved somewhere between 900-1500 AD by the 𝐩𝐫𝐞-C𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐧 T𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐨 and their ancestors. This spring fed pool with their carved symbols was a sacred place for the spirits of their ancestors.
