The Aug. 21 high tide at 7:00 pm is expected to be the most significant, with the largest waves and storm surge. County officials will begin damage assessments first thing in the morning and provide updated announcements.

The evacuation order for the Off-Road Area of Corolla is still in effect. Visitors planning to arrive in Corolla this weekend should contact their property management company for information on access before entering the area.

The view of Hurricane Erin from space as the sun rises along the East Coast. Hurricane Erin is a strong Category 2 with winds of 100MPH and is located 455 Miles southeast of Cape Hatteras. Some strengthening is possible today, and Erin could return to a Category 3 Hurricane.

The forecast has not changed; NC's worst impacts will be from the ocean later today into Thursday. Right now, along the coast, there has been a lull in the waves, so the waves are a little lower. This helped from the high tide this morning, but this evening's high tide will likely be much higher. Stay out of the ocean today!
