Well, look at us! We are delighted to be included in Outer Banks This Week 's Spring 2025 Issue, out now!

This informative and fun piece, written by Leah Wingenroth, offers insight on the history and growth of the banker horses, the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, and includes a great interview by W.H.A.T. General Manager, Pete Cole. "Our experienced tour guides are here to educate the public about the horses and provide a safe and respectful way to navigate the 4x4 area and view the horses, " and he adds, "It's important to educate the public and recognize the people in the area who are keeping the horses safe and ensuring that they can be here long-term."

"Will we see horses?"

We truly embrace the “adventure” experience of our tours--the thrill of cruising along the beach as frothy waves roll in, catching a glimpse of the dolphins at play, hearing the seagulls calling, even catching the bald eagles nesting—all while our experienced guides offer insightful and fun information about the Banker horses.

While our full intent is to locate and enjoy as many horses for our guests as possible, we also recognize that the horses have weathered a long and harsh winter and this time of the year, they're often nourishing their empty bellies on the fresh greens that are beginning to grow in the acres of property by the sound. To respect both the laws in Currituck County and the sanctuary land around them, we will only drive on public areas.

So, while the guides are willing, knowledgable and dedicated, sometimes a tour needs to be enjoyed for the experience--the learning about the horses and their environment, the discovery of the other wildlife that calls Corolla home....and, of course, being on the beach in one of our awesome humvees 😉

We are grateful for your understanding and your decision to allow Wild Horse Adventure Tours to help you create your cherished Outer Banks memories.

Stately Scar, back on the beach. 🤎🐎

The horses are beginning to venture out of the marsh as the weather warms up and it’s great to see some familiar faces after a long winter. We’d been keeping an eye out for this older stallion and were very pleased to see him on the beach this week and looking pretty darn good!

If you’re visiting the off-road area for Spring Break please be sure to read up on the rules and regulations before hitting the sand. Air down your tires and take it slow to help protect the fragile beach and sand roads. And remember you must stay 50ft away from the horses at all times. Spring is foaling and breeding season, and that means stallions are hyper-alert and very territorial. Admire them from a distance!

From far away, with a super duper zoom...Saturday morning just got a whole lot sweeter.

Check out this darling moment while our trainee tour guides were out with tour guide extraordinaire, Tree.

Complete infatuation-- followed by a great teaching moment: Appreciate from afar, leave them as peacefully as you can, and keep moving.

IT'S A GIRL! And her name is....Folly!

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund has made it official by announcing the birth of the second wild Banker foal for the 2025 season! She was born on April 1st (no foolin'....get it? Folly...April Fool?) and both she and momma are doing well.

Read the post below from CWHF for lots of informative and interesting information!

Again, we urge you to offer these and ALL the horses their space, despite the temptation to get close to "ooo" and "ahh" the new baby. REMEMBER: 50 feet away, no contact, and absolutely NO feeding will go a long way in keeping our Banker horses around for generations to come.

Welcome to our little slice of paradise, Folly!

Way back Wednesday...okay, not really WAY back--just last July, when the sand was powdery soft and the horses meandered the beach grasses in the afternoon heat.

The pollen has been bad this week, to say the least! Don’t worry, Sq**rt wiped his nose off on my shirt right after I took this photo. 🤧😉

We had the best surprise today! Looks like we get to welcome another wee darling to our sandy slice of paradise.

This unexpected and beautiful moment was submitted by the Murphy family, who were out with our tour guide extraordinaire, Shorty!

As always, we will offer momma and baby a wide berth to give them bonding time, as well as the rest of the harem, and "dad", who will be vigilant in his protection.

How much do we love our job on days like this.

Website: www.wildhorsetour.com Tour with us to find the Outer Banks Wild Spanish Colonial Mustang Horses and discover some of the most unique sights OBX has to offer. Our friendly and knowledgeable tour guides take you onto pristine northern beaches that are accessible only with a 4x4 off-road vehicle. Wild Horse Adventure Tours (W.H.A.T.) has been voted the #1 tour company in the USA and #1 "thing to do" in the Outer Banks by TripAdvisor. New for 2014, Wild Horse Adventure Tours is proud to offer Humvee Adventure Tours! Feel the ocean breeze and taste the salty beach air as you cruise the Outer Banks beaches in our exclusive OPEN AIR, 13-passenger Humvees with one of our seasoned guides in search of the Colonial Spanish Mustangs! With the added capabilities of our custom designed open air Hummer H1s, we venture into three previously inaccessible and distinct ecosystems teeming with wildlife of all types! New exclusive rights to the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Swan Beach allow us to view the horses in their natural environment. With more terrain, no two tours are ever the same; so if you like history, ecology, adventure, and quick-witted comedy, we have you covered. Our Hummer H1 vehicles have been customized with your safety in mind. All designs have been over-engineered to build the safest and most comfortable ride possible. The roll cage is built into the frame of the vehicle for ultimate protection. Seats have seatbelts and restraint systems for child seats. All seats are actual car seats -no boat-style bench seats or plastic bucket seats are used in our vehicles. An additional upper windshield with a top made with a combination of fine mesh and clear plastic enables occupants a 360-degree view while also providing protection from UV rays and unexpected inclement weather. After customization, the Humvee is capable of seating 13 passengers with more leg room than any standard SUV. Individual seats that are 21 inches wide (no bench seats), in a stadium seating configuration, offer ultimate comfort and visibility for all. Federal Protection of Horses: "On January 3, 2013, H.R. 126 was first introduced to Congress by NC Congressman Walter B. Jones. It failed to pass the senate that session. In June of 2013, it passed the House vote again (unanimously), and it now needs to pass the U.S. Senate to become law. Our hopes remain high. H.R. 126 is critical to the long-term survival of the Corolla wild horses, and it requires no additional funding from the federal government. YOU CAN HELP! Please contact your federal Representatives and tell them that you support H.R. 126 and want them to do so as well."
