Sometimes a hotel is the reason you book the trip. This is one of those.

Capella Bangkok is on the Chao Phraya River, and the position matters more than most riverfront claims in this part of the world. The property has 101 rooms and suites, which is small by Bangkok standards, and the level of service reflects that. The river views from the upper floors are among the best angles on Bangkok from any hotel in the city.

The spa is one I specifically tell clients to book before they arrive, not after check-in. The treatments are built around traditional Thai protocols: tok sen, herbal compress work, and longer-format sessions. Block off a half day and adjust your plans around it.

Advisor Tip: The river access makes temple visits significantly easier than navigating from most central Bangkok hotels. Wat Pho and Wat Arun are both reachable by boat directly from the hotel's pier.

One of the most important things I do when planning a trip: make sure the timing is right. The same destination can feel completely different depending on the month you go.

Shoulder season versus peak. The difference between crowds and calm. The wildlife migration that only happens once a year. The bloom that lasts two weeks. The weather window that makes a remote destination actually accessible.

Getting the timing right isn't just a nice-to-have. It's often the difference between a good trip and an exceptional one.

That's something I pay close attention to with every itinerary I plan. If a destination has been on your list, let's make sure you're going at exactly the right moment.

Two travelers can book the same hotel in the same destination and have completely different experiences. Usually, it comes down to when they went.

Shoulder season is one of the most consistently underused tools in travel planning. The weeks just before or after the peak in most destinations mean meaningfully fewer crowds, similar or better weather, and prices that reflect the difference. The destination is largely the same. The experience of being there is not.

Time of day is just as consequential. The most visited sites in the world look completely different at 7am versus noon. That's not a minor distinction.

Then there's booking timing. For the properties and experiences that actually fill up, waiting until a few weeks out rarely works. The best rooms, the best guides, and the best tables are usually gone. Knowing when to move is part of the job.

When timing is right across all three of those, the trip feels significantly different. That's something I pay close attention to with every itinerary I help plan.

The pools here are heated by an active volcano. That detail never gets old.

Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa is one of my favorite properties in Costa Rica, and the hot springs are only part of the reason.

A few things I always point clients toward while they're here: the hanging bridges walk through the Arenal cloud forest, white-water rafting on the Balsa River, kayaking on Lake Arenal, and an evening back at the thermal pools with a drink in hand. Not a bad few days.

Reach out if you'd like help putting the itinerary together.

Some travelers are planning with a different set of priorities right now. Destinations that feel stable, well-organized, and deliver an excellent experience without uncertainty. A few I keep recommending:

Switzerland, for alpine adventures that are hard to match anywhere. In summer, gondola rides into the Alps, mountain coasters, and for the chocolate lovers, Geneva has an unlimited chocolate pass honored at the city's best artisanal chocolatiers.

Ireland and Scotland, for long summer days, the Wild Atlantic Way, and a hospitality culture that consistently surprises first-time visitors in the best way.

Japan, for cherry blossom season, world-class powder skiing, small-ship cruising along its coastline, and a level of cultural depth that clients say changed how they think about travel entirely.

Australia and New Zealand, for stunning natural landscapes, serious food culture, and a well-run English-speaking environment that works particularly well for first-time long-haul travelers. Book New Zealand now before its first Michelin Guide puts the best tables out of reach.

If this is the kind of trip you're planning, I'll help you find the right destination and design it properly.

Europe gets all the attention. South America gets all the rewards. And right now, it's the best-kept secret in luxury travel.

While everyone is fighting for peak-season availability in Italy and France, South America offers world-class hotels, extraordinary food, and a fraction of the crowds. And the destinations have never been better.

Peru has a food culture that has surprised the world, and properties around Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley that rival anything in Europe for design and experience.

Colombia has gone from under the radar to genuinely unmissable: Cartagena's old city, the coffee region, and Medellín's food and design scene are drawing travelers.

Argentina rounds it out with Buenos Aires, one of the great city experiences anywhere, and Mendoza wine country, which competes with the best regions in the world.

Three countries. Extraordinary experiences. If South America has been on your radar, this is the year to stop waiting. Let's plan it properly.

Some of Norway's most spectacular coastlines have no road access. The only way to experience it is exactly like this.

Hurtigruten has been sailing from Bergen to Kirkenes since 1893, and nothing about the scenery has gotten old. The Lofoten Wall emerging from the sea. The Northern Lights appearing above the deck on a winter crossing.

Hurtigruten is so confident in the conditions that they'll give you a free voyage if the aurora doesn't show. An onboard expedition team that makes every port feel like an insider experience.

This is the trip clients come back from and immediately start telling people about. Let's get it on the calendar.

Every room. Every suite. Every view faces the Taj Mahal.

Oberoi Amarvilas, less than half a mile from the East Gate, consistently ranks among the top hotels in Asia, and is one of the first properties I mention when a client says India is on their list.

India trips are also some of the most talked-about trips my clients ever take. Not just during the trip, for years after. The country rewards great planning more than almost anywhere else I send people, and this is one of the properties I build that planning around.

The Chobe River basin has one of the highest concentrations of elephants on Earth. Watching that from the water is an experience of its own.

The Zambezi Queen is a luxury houseboat that cruises the Chobe River on the border of Botswana and Zimbabwe. Fourteen suites, a small group, and days built around the river.

Elephants crossing right in front of the boat is a regular occurrence. So are hippos, crocs, and some of the best birding on the continent. Game drives go alongside the river experience, so guests cover both water and land during the journey.

Advisor insight: This experience pairs naturally with a private game reserve stay in Botswana or Zimbabwe to complete an itinerary that covers the full range of a Southern Africa trip.

If Africa is on your list, this is one of the most unique ways to experience it.

I've sent many clients to Iguazú Falls. Not one has come back saying it wasn't worth it.

Gran Meliá Iguazú is the only hotel located inside the Argentine national park, putting guests closer to the falls than any other property in the area. That means early access before day visitors arrive and a completely different atmosphere once they leave.

Staying on the Argentine side also gives access to the Brazilian perspective, which offers a panoramic view that's entirely different from the up-close experience. The falls span nearly 2 miles and include 275 individual cascades.

Advisor Tip: Buenos Aires, the wine country of Mendoza, and Patagonia all connect well with a few nights here.
