As I was driving back to Houston from , I ran across an old field from the 1930s. This oil jack pump was just sitting here next to the highway, rusting away. A few feet away, was an active pump. Almost 100 years later, this field is now producing near $100 a barrel oil. Texas gold in East Texas!!

Lange's Mill (we call it Old Lange's Mill) is in a beautiful old place way out in the boonies on a small Texas road near Doss, Texas. My grandparents used to have Sunday picnics at the low water crossing bridge. Grist mills were common in Texas and remain in some places but usually not functional. Back in the horseback days when horses were the only means of transportation, small scenic spots like this were plentiful.

Conroe, Tx
My second visit to this restaurant, having a night of Mexican culture, which has been here since the beginnings of the state. Dancing horses and cultural dances of men and women were spectacular from our table.

Smallest Catholic Church in the World
This tiny church is located near Round Top and Brenham. Although I would not go on a trip just to see this, it is quite an unusual sight to see. Indeed it is very small, and it is said that there is not a smaller Catholic church in all the entire world. Included is a photo of the visitors book, where we noticed a prayer for Conroe Texas. We live in that city and just happened to be dealing with the problem at noted right now. What a coincidence.

We run across some of most amazing things when we travel the backroads of Texas. This one beat all I think. We went to visit the Old Baylor campus near Brenham and stopped to see the smallest Catholic Church in the entire world. The amazing part is that we live in Conroe and have been dealing with an interstate pipeline being constructed in the city limits of Conroe. On entering this very small church, we went to the altar and found a sign-in sheet dated September 1st with a prayer concerning this pipeline. What a coincidence. We have no idea who was there and wrote that prayer, but it is now an image in Texas.

Dancing Mexican Horses
The brown Quarter Horse is guided by a ranch hand to dance to the TexMex music at a restaurant here in Conroe. This is true Texas, with a merge of cultures from Spain, Mexico and English. It is copyrighted and can be used only to share with others on Facebook, including the text in this post.

Modern day Texas is full of new communities and sights, like this water feature in the East Texas forest. The weather now is plenty hot but the news is showing us temps ten degrees higher in the north. So glad to be a Texan... moderation in about everything but modern where it counts, keeping traditions, beauty and safety at the top of the list. Our state suffered in floods in July, a rarity, and we were not prepared defensively for excessive rain. Lesson definitely learned and will be corrected.

Conroe Texas
Azaleas and Butterflies
My front yard. Texas Azaleas provide food for butterflies as well as being beautiful for our eyes. One of the best places to see Azaleas is our state.
