191/152 HAS TO BE RIDDEN AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR

Every time we ride the 191/152 it is different from the last time.

In September 2021 we were out early in the morning on NM-152 from the Drifter Motel in Silver City, and the roads were slick and dewy, another 30 minutes of shut eye wouldn’t have gone amiss to correct the road conditions. This year our ride was wet wet wet! What a ride, lots of concentration was needed and good riding boots to stave off the wet feet. Aquaplaning on a three wheeler can be a pucker moment but, whew, we had a blast anyway.

We started from Corrales, clear and dry but then as we rode through The Needles in EL Malpais the rain started and it kept coming, all the way to Quemado. Brunch there and coffee and we were warmed up and ready to go again. The 191 was super quiet, I don’t think we had to pass one vehicle and we certainly saw no wildlife! We were both looking for the Arrow Tree past Hannigan Meadows but we both managed to miss it! Oh well, next time we will get pictures.

Morenci Mine in AZ is the biggest copper mine I have ever seen and during this visit it was a hive of activity; certainly you could sit there for a while being entertained with all the comings and goings!

Overnight in Silver City and we promised ourselves a look-see at the recently opened catwalk, but the rain kept us focused on getting home and dry. 152 was equally quiet. Even though wet, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and Gary reminded me I am now a “truly seasoned rider.”
