Free Family Concert Brings the Joy of Classical Music and Storytelling to the Community
CORVALLIS, Ore. — What if a bird could sing through a flute, a duck could quack through a kazoo, and a wolf could emerge through music? Children and families are invited to step into a world of musical imagination at a free family concert with live piano and narration, featuring Sergei Prokofiev’s beloved classic, Peter & The Wolf. This is presented by Corvallis-OSU Piano International on Saturday, November 7, at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library (CBCPL).
A Classic Story, Told Through Music
One of the most beloved musical stories for young audiences, Peter & The Wolf introduces listeners to a world where every character has a distinctive musical voice. Composer Sergei Prokofiev uses memorable melodies and musical themes to bring the story’s characters to life—from brave Peter and the playful little bird to the duck, cat, grandfather, hunters, and the wolf.
As the adventure unfolds, young listeners discover how music can create characters, express emotions, and tell a story. Whether experiencing this classic for the first time or returning to a familiar favorite, children and adults alike can enjoy the wonder of a story told through music.

Through its People and Pianos events, Corvallis-OSU Piano International has brought community pianists, young performers, and families together at CBCPL. Past programs have featured family concerts built around musical themes, including Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals in 2025, as well as performances by local pianists.
By bringing live music into welcoming community spaces, Corvallis-OSU Piano International creates opportunities for people of all ages to discover, enjoy, and connect through music.
