Kayaking the Verde River is one of the most unexpected experiences in Northern Arizona. Surrounded by towering cottonwood trees, lush greenery, and calm flowing water, it almost doesn’t feel like Arizona at all.

One of the most unique ways to experience it is through Alcantara Vineyard’s popular Water to Wine tour (in partnership with ), where guests kayak down the Verde River before ending at for wine tasting. The Jail Trail in Cottonwood is a surprisingly green oasis amidst Arizona’s desert landscape. This 1.6 mile loop trail goes through a dense riparian forest along the Verde River and it’s easily accessible from Main Street in Old Town Cottonwood.
