Potter County Stargazing Tours operates in the only Dark Sky Preserve in the mid- Atlantic region. This is the most accessible and darkest sky, east of the Mississippi. This area is known by astronomers as being exceptionally clear, low particulate (dust) rates, and with a complete absence of light.

🌠 The Perseid Meteor Shower Begins July 17 Let the Shooting Star Season Start!

One of the most beloved meteor showers of the year is making its grand entrance! Starting July 17, 2025, the Perseid meteor shower will begin lighting up the night skies, kicking off a month-long celestial display that reaches its fiery peak in mid-August.

But don’t wait for the climax early risers (or night owls!) can start catching the show right away.

✨ First activity begins around 21:00 UTC
✨ The radiant point in the Perseus constellation rises around 22:30 UTC
✨ For best results, stargaze between midnight and 4 AM UTC on July 18

Even in the early stages, the Perseids can deliver 10–20 meteors per hour, especially if you’re lucky enough to be under dark, rural skies. That’s a steady stream of cosmic glitter streaking across the sky no telescope required.

🌌 Grab a blanket, head away from city lights, and let your eyes adjust for at least 20 minutes. Then just sit back, relax, and watch Earth drift through the trail of comet Swift–Tuttle the ancient origin of these glowing space rocks.

This annual event is a perfect mix of astronomy, beauty, and a touch of magic. Whether you're making a wish or just soaking up the moment, the Perseids are an unforgettable summer night ritual.

A great place to visit if you’re in the area!

Did you know The Kinzua Bridge, also known as the Kinzua Viaduct, was once the world’s tallest and longest railroad bridge. Located in McKean County, Pennsylvania, it was originally built in 1882 to transport trains across the Kinzua Creek Valley. The bridge stood 301 feet high and stretched 2,053 feet long. It was partially destroyed by a tornado in 2003, which caused a large section to collapse. Today, the remaining part has been transformed into a pedestrian skywalk with a glass platform, offering stunning views of the valley below. It is a key feature of Kinzua Bridge State Park and a popular tourist attraction.
