Dumbest hunting law award: suppressors. For almost 100 years, the government treated a muffler for your r***e like gangster equipment. Suppressors got put into the National Fi****ms Act of 1934, meaning federal paperwork, fingerprints, registration, approval, and a $200 tax just to own hearing-protection equipment. And no, they do not make a r***e silent. The bullet still cracks, the gun still makes noise, and everybody who has actually shot one knows that. What they do is knock down the brutal muzzle blast right next to your ears.

That is what makes the law so stupid. We preach hunter safety, eye protection, life jackets, tree-stand harnesses, hunter education, and protecting yourself in the field, but for decades one of the simplest fi***rm safety devices as something used by criminals in movies. The federal tax finally dropped to $0 in 2026 and a federal court case ended the federal restrictions. Hollywood convinced people they were assassin tools, and politicians built laws around the myth. In reality, suppressors should have been treated like safety equipment from the beginning.
