Today is a day that carries more than one feeling.
India’s Independence in 1947 meant the end of British rule, and for millions of Indians, that was a moment of profound, hard-won significance. But it arrived alongside Partition, the division of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan, and later Bangladesh. Families were separated overnight. People who had lived as neighbors found themselves on different sides of a new border. The movement of populations that followed was one of the largest in human history, and it came with enormous human cost.
Pakistan's Independence Day fell yesterday, on August 14th. The two days sit together in the calendar as a reminder that liberation and loss are often part of the same story 🇮🇳
To travel in India with genuine curiosity is to carry some of that history with you. We think that is exactly as it should be.
