There's snow in the north! ❄️

Many cross-country ski trails are groomed and ready to go in Northern MN. There has also been additional recent snow accumulation, so the trails are getting better and better.

Here are three tips to plan your trip:

2. Check the condition of the trails on the Trail Snow Depth Report (updated regularly): https://mndnr.gov/snow_depth/trail.html?id=4137

Remember to dress in layers, bring water and a snack, and have fun! It's time to wax up those skis and get your ski legs back! ⛷️

The snow that’s fallen in recent days in some parts of the state means snowmobilers are seeing the best conditions they’ve seen all season – and maybe longer. Some riders are hitting the trails for the first time in a couple years, while others simply are enjoying more “normal” conditions.

If you’re planning to put some miles on your sled, please prioritize safety. A few tips to keep in mind:

✔️ Stay on marked trails. It’s safer and will prevent you from trespassing, which is a safety risk and carries with it the potential for steep penalties.

✔️ Wait until your ride is over to drink alcohol.

✔️ Watch your speed. Ride only as fast as conditions and your experience level allows.

✔️ Ride on the right.

✔️ If you’re on the ice, be aware of ice heaves and other dangerous obstructions that may be snow-covered.

✔️ Take a snowmobile safety class. Riders who have safety certification are less likely to be injured or worse while riding.
