27” Redfish

Did a consult today “their boat” before pulling up to the first spot we noticed the trolling motor was completely dead… So I was scared it was gonna be a longgg day… but the Redfish bite was insane this morning! Motored up and anchored first spot and landed 25 reds before 830am! Got a few perfect 27-29” and a bunch of bottom slot 19-20” reds. Instead of Releasing Reds all day they wanted to find some trout to bring home so we switched to drifting the flats but the 20mph winds didn’t make it easy. Got a few sea trout before wanting to go look for drum. Saw a few on the surface but they weren’t interested again even with blue crabs… he had to leave at 1130 so we dropped him off at the dock with the redfish and seatrout and we went and loaded up on sand trout and whiting with his mom for a nice pile of fish sticks for the fish fry!

Who doesn’t love repeat clients and a good redfish bite to start the day! I knew today was going to be get in an get out with a 630am high tide so we did just that. Caught at least 20 Redfish quickly with 3 or so nice slot fish and 1 Overslot. Then we decided two try playing with trout and they did not want to cooperate today at all so we went on a drum hunt. Started slow looking for them and stumbled across 3-4 more decent redfish while messing around and then we started seeing them surrounding the boat… they were not interested whatsoever normally even when they’re not hungry I can get a couple on accident but not today we watched drum swim circles around us for over an hour without landing a single one… decided to go look for them in the backwater islands and sure enough we sight casted a couple and got one to eat right away. Sometimes you gotta leave fish to find more cooperative fish. Even got a nice bonus flounder to make Mikes bucket list.
