Jon Rosman came to the Crystal River State Parks with a strong background in the natural world, having earned his Eagle award doing an environmental Eagle Scout project with the Boy Scouts back in his high school days, but he’s certainly expanded his knowledge of not only biology but archaeology since he started his job as an OPS Park Attendant last year. Jon’s primary duties are maintaining trails, mowing, and doing groundskeeping at the Archaeological StatePark and Churchhouse Hammock, but he also gives tours and does, as all park rangers do, “other duties as assigned”. You may remember Jon from posts last year about rescuing a turtle from a park road, or working on Christmas Day when most other rangers were home with their families.

Jon can’t walk by a downed branch or palm frond without picking it up and depositing it in the woods, keeping the grounds of the Arch Park tidy, or making sure a hiking trail is safe and enjoyable. Nor can he let a park visitor walk by without a hearty hello. It’s all part of a job he loves.

“Every day is new and different,” Jon says with a smile. And it’s obvious that he can’t wait to see what each day holds, and make it the best not only for himself, but for his coworkers and every visitor to the Crystal River State Parks.
