Manatee Season starts November 15th! Today, we're throwing it back to Manatee Season 2025!

Here are some tips if you're planning to visit us anytime from November 15th to March 31st:
- Book early! This is our busiest time of year, and seats can fill up fast. We also recommend going earlier in the day, as water visibility and manatee viewing are typically better.
- Bring warm clothes!! Florida is known for its heat, but our winters can be unexpectedly cold. We provide hot beverages on board, but bring towels, blankets, and/or jackets for when you get out of the water.
- Ask questions! There's a lot to know about wintertime manatee tours, and we want you to have the best experience possible. Speak to one of our reservation specialists today!

Booking a manatee tour but worried about the weather? ⬇️

We can find manatees in most weather conditions, even in the rain! Safety is our top priority, so heavy winds or thunderstorms may delay or cancel tours. For tours in colder temperatures, we recommend bringing towels, blankets, and warm clothes!

Did you know manatees used to walk the Earth? 🌎

Not the manatees we know today, but their ancestors were among the first mammals to begin the transition from land to water. This group is called Tethytheria, named after the Tethys Sea, where these animals lived.

The group Tethytheria consists of Sirenia (manatees and dugongs), Proboscidea (elephants and their ancestors), and Desmostylia (an extinct herbivorous marine animal). Sirenians were the first mammals to evolve to be fully aquatic and remain the only living aquatic herbivores in the world!

Manatees are one of the most unique animals; it's amazing what evolution can do!

Experience wild manatees in their natural habitat!

Crystal River is one of the only places in the world where you can swim with manatees. From November through March, we have the world's largest aggregation of manatees! But did you know we have manatees outside of manatee season?

It's true! The Kings Bay/Crystal River Wildlife Refuge is home to a small population of resident manatees. Factors like weather, tides, and human activity can affect manatee activity, but populations typically range from 1 to 50 manatees.

What do you call a group of manatees? 🤔

A group of manatees is called an "aggregation". An aggregation is defined as a group of animals loosely gathered in an area for a shared attraction (i.e., food, warmth, curiosity). Manatees also gather together for mating! These are called mating herds, as these groups are more structured and focused on one manatee. Once the attraction or mating herd ends, manatees continue to live a solitary life.

Manatee season is one month away; the springs are flowing like crazy, the sun is shining, and fall is here! 🍁

Last week, Guide Carmelo and his group got the chance to observe a manatee and her calf resting at the surface of the water 🥹

Always be on the lookout for manatees, as they can rest in a few different places: at the water's surface, in the water column, or on the bottom. 😴

What in the world is this manatee doing? 🤔

Well, it's not dancing, that's for sure! There hasn't been much research on manatee behavior; our theory is that this manatee was using this pole and stairs as a personal backscratcher 😂
