Manatee Season is only 2 months away!!

Manatee Season is from November 15th to March 31st. Keep in mind you can swim with manatees outside of the season, so keep an eye on that weather! Cooler weather may bring in better manatee viewing.

IDLE SPEED: What does it mean for manatees?

Idle speed is the minimum speed a boat can operate without stalling.

Idle speed is crucial in manatee zones; it requires boat operators to move at a slow speed in the event a manatee were to swim under their boat. The slower a boat is moving, the quicker the operator can stop the propeller, and the less likely to strike the manatee.

If you see an injured manatee or need to report a violation, call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.

No matter the time of year, be on the lookout for manatees!

- Insurable Florida Driver's License
- Reliable Transportation (living within 45 minutes is
preferred)
- Swim guide experience required (at least 1 year preferred)
- Able to pass a drug test
- Willing to work weekends and holidays

An adult manatee's lungs are ~4 feet long! Unlike most marine animals, manatees' lungs are positioned around the heart and extend towards the back, covering the stomach, liver, and other vital organs. Their large lungs allow them to hold their breath up to 20 minutes; in a single breath, they exchange 90% of the air in their lungs! 🫁
